"I believe this was either 1976 or maybe 1975 So either Kindergarten or First Grade. I think it's Kindergarten because in First Grade I had glasses. This was taken at Oak Glen School in Lansing, IL suburb of Chicago. That was a dress I liked a lot, I think it was a corduroy kind of material. I remember each year at picture time they'd give us a black comb and ask each of us to comb our hair. I hated combs because my hair was always full of tangles and it hurt. The teacher would always come by and comb my bangs down onto my forehead.

Kindergarten was not nice to me...the beginning of being branded the 'outcast.' I yelled at the 'pretty' girl for sitting in my chair. At home we each had specific chairs we sat in, you didn't sit in someone else's chair. Well, even the teacher told me to pick a different chair. That was unheard of in my 5 year old brain! You don't do that!! So, yeah, from that moment on my social standing was ruined." -- Pirate Alice.
