"This is me in 1988 (age 13, 8th grade), while I was attending Walter Reed Jr. High, in Studio City, CA (which is right next to Sherman Oaks, the birthplace of the 'Valley Girl' phenom). It was around this time that my parents finally let me rent Pretty in Pink (as it was a risque PG-13), and after that, Molly Ringwald practically became my religion (I later found out she went to my Jr. High)! After watching Pretty in Pink, all I wanted were vintage clothes (though the crushed green velvet top in the photo was totes Contempo), and I volunteered at the hair-salon in the mall for a free cut (I remember that I asked for an 'asymmetrical new wave bob';). I was also a real trailblazer at my school for being the first one to henna my hair, and you gotta love the red lipstick with wrap-around braces combo. My most frequently uttered phrase at this time was definitely 'dad, you're embarrassing me!'" -- Jenny
