Exactly. Some non-profits have staff of 5,000 or more and offices in every state. CEO pay in the country is ridiculous, but sometimes you are competing with people who could be paid $10 million in the private sector. However, when it comes from donor money, once you get beyond $200K or so it does seem dubious.
I wish nylons with open-toed shoes were kosher because my feet tend to turn all sorts of weird purple and red colors, particularly when I am cold or standing up for a while.
Just for clarification for others, he was not convicted of anything, but this is based on the details in the application for a restraining order that she filed, rather than just rumor. However, I think she then withdrew the application. I don't remember.
Well, he did beat up his girlfriend pretty badly.
Just because Roman Polanski, Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen are also pieces of shit doesn't make Chris Brown not a piece of shit. I have a talent/taste double standard though. It is a lot easier for me never to watch Charlie Sheen in anything or listen to Chris Brown because I don't like their stuff. However, I'm not going to actively argue in any of their favor.
As a white person I confused by all of this skin and hair confusion. I'm guessing maybe a lot of Gawkerites haven't had kids yet? White babies have very white skin with little pigment, which is the same reason they are almost all born with blue eyes, some of which turn brown in the first year. Babies of all races tend to darken up. Lots of white babies are born with a crazy head of straight, dark hair which then falls out and is replaced by whatever their "real" hair is going to be.
No, you have to have over 50 employees. Thus, only a small percentage of employers are covered by FMLA, but because they are large and employ a lot of people, it ends up covering about 58% of people working in the US.
Just FYI on FMLA:

FMLA-covered establishments
Percent of Establishments 1995 Survey: 10.8%
Percent of Establishments 2000 Survey: 10.8%
Percent of Employees 1995 Survey: 59.5%
Percent of Employees 2000 Survey: 58.3%

Non-covered establishments
Percent of Establishments 1995 Survey: 89.2%
Percent of Establishments 2000 Survey: 89.2%
Percent of Employees 1995 Survey: 40.5%
Percent of Employees 2000 Survey: 41.7%

So, more than 40% of all employees are not covered by FMLA and have no legal right to maternity leave.

But many companies are not covered by FMLA.
That's what I remember from the piece too. "Those idiots like to hunt. What idiots." I'm not even a hunter but it rubbed me the wrong way,
That would still be impressive to me.
I think my only real celebrity sighting was when I ate lunch at the same restaurant as Aleksey Vayner in New Haven. Sadly my attempts to eavesdrop on his conversation were unsuccessful.
I think every kid is different, but now that my daughter is close to 2, this is a lot easier to do than when she was very little and would scream bloody murder unless she was in the baby carrier.
True, but my toddler was easily able to pop those things out of the outlets from age 13 months or so. We have to deal with it through discipline, but even if she knows she is not supposed at 18 months, she still is tempted a few times a week.
No one "needs" to post any pictures on Facebook. Sure, it might be a silly fight, but it is trying to fight the same culture that gets nursing women kicked off airplanes for feeding their kids.
I agree too. I enjoyed the movies, but always felt he was horribly miscast.
I have such fond memories of listening to Joan Jett, the Thompson Twins, and for some reason, the Grease soundrack on 8-track in my best friend's basement from ages 5-8.
I'm most confused by his use of "free money". The money PP gets is to perform a specific service. By his logic, my paycheck is free money.
Exactly. Trying to ruin anyone who criticizes them in the least bit sort of diminishes their efforts to stand up for freedom and accountability.
I keep seeing people complaining about nonplussed being used incorrectly, so I started getting paranoid that it didn't really mean at a loss. I've never heard people using it to mean unimpressed before but I guess I should get ready.
