Oh man, then I saw it but just wasn't aware of how amazing it was at the time! That makes me tempted to watch the first episode again. I also want to go back and watched the first 2 Untucked episodes, I can't believe I'd been missing out on such amazingness for so long.
It does kind of look like the presenter was saying something to Adele, maybe he was telling her she had a short amount of time? Either way, she didn't actually seem all that angry when she flipped the bird. People are taking it too seriously. Some people are more inclined to swear, throw up their middle finger, etc. Others are not. Those who are more inclined to do it, it generally means less to them. If she loves throwing around the ole birdie than I don't think she was trying to make some huge statement about her being offended.
That whole scene just cracked me up. I love watching the commercials for Phi Phi's "Go back to party city where you belong!" and Latrice saying "The shade of it all". Did the latter already happen? Was it in an untucked or something? I only started watching Untucked last week, and I realized I'd been missing out on SO MUCH
Offtopic but have you tried VS' miraculous bra???! It's so much padding. I love it, rarely wear it because it is kind of ridiculous, but it makes me feel boobtacular.
Yeah, the same with my mother. When I was talking to her more about it, she eventually realized that some things were in fact linked to racism that she didn't realize were racist before. Sometimes you have to step outside to really see what's going on inside.
All of the Caribbean has racial diversity. But, as colonial subjects there are certain attributes considered more beautiful and of value hence the pigmentocracy. Which is also a phenomenon in Trinidad (I remember having to discard some of the studies I had picked out because after reading them they focused purely on Trinidad and my paper was specifically on Jamaica). It's something that is bred out of racial diversity. Not everyone is aware of it. My mom had no clue that Jamaica had such a bad pigmentocracy, and she was born there and didn't leave until her 30s. I'm not trying to argue with you, I was just pointing out that the Caribbean has a pigmentocracy, and a pretty intense one at that.
The Caribbean actually has a really intense pigmentocracy, so you're lucky to not have had to feel that kind of pressure (for example, the surge in skin bleaching in Jamaica). The history and the present of pigmentocracy in the Caribbean is absolutely fascinating, if you have the time to read up on it. People like to think that the US follows the rule of hypodescent (either Black or White no inbetween; the one drop rule) but in reality we've got a pretty bad pigmentocracy within the Black community as well.
I have to wonder, if the school just agreed to take it down then they probably wouldn't have had to go through with the lawsuit. So, the unnecessary spending is less her fault and more theirs if that's the case.
