It comes partially from the desire or need to be part of the dominant culture. But it also comes from other places as well. Women in many different cultures have been lightening their skin for thousands of years - EVEN in places that hadn't been colonized (at that point) by people with lighter skin.

I don't have time to give you a history lesson, but you can look into it if you're interested. (I'm sure you're not. You seem very secure in the fact that you know everything. )

That's why I said "particularly if that group is smaller". That is, people are more likely to be ignorant of a minority group (of any kind.) Settle the fuck down.
ANo, I don't think that at all. But you'll see the desire for lighter skin in Asia and in Europe (until just a few decades ago) and it has nothing to do with rape or slavery.
I don't think it has anything to do with rape. Unfortunately you'll see "light aspiration" in other countries and cultures as well.
The only comment here that made me laugh!
Unfortunately every group is ignorant of the other - particularly if that group is smaller. Most people live in a bubble.
I think she meant the baby.

Most do come out looking a little weird, but I've seen some really beautiful newborn babies - even from vaginal births.

That baby looks so much like Beyonce's mom. I need to eat her! So cute!

And, yes, for all the people who have seemingly never been around black babies, they often start out a bit lighter and have straighter hair in the early weeks.

Not that it's any of our business what color or texture someone's baby is! Jesus.

Or cancer. He looks a lot like my stepfather did when he was battling leukemia. He was around his age at the time (and didn't make it.)

Most of us don't think of men as having eating disorders, but that could certainly be the case as well.

I don't know how anyone can joke about this (even on Gawker.) Something is obviously terribly wrong. I like they guy. I hope he recovers from it - whatever "it" is.
The reaction shots on these shows aren't necessarily connected to what is being said. The women on the various Housewives shows have brought this up on the reunion shows several times.
You know they don't pay for those things? They get free stuff (plastic surgery, parties, etc.) if they're featured on the show. Free publicity for the doctors, planners, etc.
I think that's her formal life. More recently they were in serious trouble and he was the breadwinner and now he's dead, so...
It's been "documented". You mean random people on the internet have commented on blogs?
You know Russel has been accused by two other women of being abusive, right? And she has photos and hospital records.
I think anyone who was offered money to write a book after they've suddenly become a single parent would think seriously about doing it. Russel put them in serious financial trouble. Why wouldn't she want to earn some money?
She can be a seriously flawed human being AND abused. People miss that.
You're assuming it's true?
Wow, I think he's a handsome dude. And I don't think he looks like his dad at all.
