It's Songkhran now, the Thai new year. Taking off your shirt is not part of the tradition, it's a bit like Easter/Esther where it's about rebirth/cleansing, etc. So they throw a lot of water on each other and use some kind of chalk powder on their faces and bodies.

I can see how this would upset people, sort of like if in America (where there are plenty of strip clubs) someone was taking their top off in a Thanksgiving Day parade. Nobody would think anything of it if it happened at the "appropriate" venue.
It's a great name! My first daughter is KathArine (after Hepburn and Graham) and there was little to no argument on it. She used to be Katie but now she's definitely Kate. She fits the description to a tee, although I wonder how much of it is tied to parental expectation. Like, how many kick-ass Bambis do we know?
