I've worn a pink SGK bracelet on my arm, along with my yellow Livestrong bracelet, since my mom passed away in 2001 (rare colorectal cancer - not breast cancer - as there's no bracelet for what she had).

I just took it off. Not another dime.

Man, it is seriously so important to be mindful of the things you say to people. You never know what struggles or issues or history an individual may have.

I am, on the whole, not easily offended by things, but I also deal with pretty serious depression. I also fake happy so incredibly well that most people would never know - and if I do tell them they don't believe me or feel awful about the things they may have said around me.

You may say something offhanded and get no reaction from people, but you have no idea what may hurt somebody so much they cry themselves to sleep at night or worse. Sticks, stones, words, etc.

It's best for the director to ignore it. Not the usher. 1 minute of ringing + 30 seconds of shuffling getting the patron to leave or 5 minutes of constant ringing that then causes the director to stop the entire performance and then the eruption of an entire theatre of angry patrons? I'll take the former.
"I was a fan of Margaret Cho, but then she used crazy foul language and I can't condone that."

Umm...seriously? Have you EVER heard Margaret Cho in standup? Her language has always been foul - and I love her for it. And this. And her tattoos.

Margaret - call me.

It shouldn't have been able to go on ringing for 5 minutes. That person should've been escorted out within a minute of the ringing. 5 minutes is absolutely excessive. If the conductor stops the damn show, that's a hot mess.

I understand being upset. I've had a performance RUINED by a ringing cell phone after many, many, many requests before the show to "Please turn your cell phones off - this performance is going to be professionally recorded." We asked nicely, you dick. Turn your damn phone off. You are NOT that important that you need to ruin a performance with Marimba.

Correction: This is not "Hollywood" - this is a female independent film maker. You should visit the film's website and listen to her interviews.

Also: Movie trailers are intentionally cut to draw you in (see the trailer for Will Smith's 7 Pounds - that trailer is incredibly misleading). Cheesy things like doves flying free (listen to the accompanying poem being read - it fits) give the needed selling point.

Dude - there is way too much hate on this post. If this was a Muslim family with a father whispering prayers of Islam into his child's ear (I'm sure there's a name for this practice, but I don't know what it is), everybody would be talking about how beautiful it is - not about all the things that child could grow up to be or how that father may (or may not) be forcing his wife to wear certain clothing.

My goodness, y'all.

I've been waiting for this movie's release for about 8 months and it's FINALLY showing in my city on Friday and I cannot wait! We're rollin about 8 deep!
I had a deal worked out with my dad: We'd figure out how much I would have gotten back on my federal taxes, he'd still claim me, and just give me the difference. He kept me on his insurance and willingly picked up my birth control every month (he works at the hospital - discount) while I worked my way through college. It was a win-win for both of us.
Jesus. My cousin just turned 13 the other day. For Christmas, she got Justin Bieber everything: Watch, t-shirt, CD, perfume (which is awful, btw), and Justin Bieber cake for her birthday. I cannot even FATHOM this dude even trying. Her focus is on some boy singer hearthrob somebody or other - not some creepy man with old balls.
I'd definitely put it in at Space Bag or something, at least, and hold on to it. If for nothing else, but as a reminder to never repeat that kind of history again. I personally think that when you lock things too far away, people forget how bad it really was.
As a multi-racial female, that has been most of my experience with college-educated white males. And most of the time they don't know they're racist (or definitely saying racist things - and I am not easily offended). A lot of the conversations start out as, "You're a college-educated black woman. How come...?" It generally turns out poorly, especially if there's any level of alcohol involved.
Y'know - I don't know you, so my immediate answer would be, "Uhh...I probably wouldn't do that."

But I've heard several of my white friends use that word and don't flinch (I, myself, am a multi-racial female). If you were my friend, I'd give that phrase a pass simply b/c of it's direct, nonchalant-ness - and would likely respond with: "Yup. You right."

I also don't offend easily at all. I hear it's a midwestern thing.
I remember Fat Joe being on a national radio segment that was done with people in the hip-hop industry (Busta Rhymes, KRS 1 & other big names were involved as well; I think Big Tigga hosted) right after 9/11. Fat Joe seemed to have well thought out ideas and opinions.

At the time (I was freshly 18), I had never heard a rapper speak so intelligently.
Seriously. My grandma used to shimmy around with her cigarette and coffee when his music came on.
I say to each their own, but should I ever become legally wed to someone (whether they be male or female [Haha! Never in Georgia, silly!]), I will not take their last name.

The personal decision for me stems from the fact that I know what the history is behind that. And while that tradition may be harmless these days, it's roots are still grounded in something I cannot condone or agree with. I am my own person. My father and mother's child. That and it's a fucking pain to do - or undo in the case of divorce. So...no.

But if he/she is super nice to me and cooks for me and promises to always clean the shower/tub, I might, might hyphenate. Big maybe though.
I don't think it's actually off center. Kerning 101: Every character has a space it "lives in." and this one, with its serif at the top, probably makes it look like it's off center. You can kern in or out to make things closer or further away, but it's not in relation to another character - just white space. So it may not be off center in actuality.
Wasn't there some guy who got shot or run over or something outside of an emergency room (literally outside the doors) in Chicago a few years ago and they told him he should call an ambulance? I feel like I saw the surveillance tape on the news or something.
