As far as the gender problems go, it is changing slowly and mostly depends on the place. Some restaurants are female friendly, some are still old school. But in both you definitely have to maintain a certain strong attitude. If you are seen as too fragile or weak, especially as a woman in the kitchen, you won't survive at most places. On the other hand, if you are a hard ass, it will get you respect. This is solely in my experience, I'm sure other places are different and front of the house has plenty of differences from back of the house (which is where I have worked). Sorry if any of this is a bit incoherent, I am running on low sleep.
I have had several blood tests since as it did cause some health issues but since I have been off the drug now my bone pain is gone. And that was something I had problems with before I corrected what I think was an electrolyte issue, as pedialyte seemed to correct it, so I think I'm ok there.
I do believe that people should not be anti-medication, I personally would not have lived a bearable life without pharmaceutical intervention. And that there are certain forces in the media and society that are anti-medicine. I just tend to think doctors have the opposite problem, they don't necessarily not mention the side effects but they do downplay them dramatically. There are plenty of times the drugs are worth it, but plenty of times people wouldn't have taken the drug had they known the risk. People just need to honestly know the stakes involved.
I... have thought far too much about this. I blame the AVclub.
