For various reasons I am unlikely to be able to come on here again. I just wanted to say a fond farewell and wish you all health and happiness, without which life isn't worth the candle. Thank-you for being such good company and cheering me up over the years and long may Jezebel and Jezzies flourish. Love Caro #Groupthink
I stopped buying magazines when I grew up and grew old. There really is nothing for women of a certain age. There were a few good magazines in the UK a decade or so back like Eve but they folded. Now I would have to be really desperate for something to read or enticed by the free gift to bother to buy one.
Kate Middleton's late mother-in-law, Diana, never liked blood sports and look where that got her with the royal family. Consequently, Kate probably thought it a good idea to display her hunting or at least her fur wearing credentials.
A few decades back a divorced friend asked if I was courting. I had to smile at such archiac language. Like the Lady of Shallot I have no loyal knight and true.
I had a gay male friend ask me last weekend why I wasn't dating. He couldn't understand that I refuse to date whilst I am insolvent. Pride won't let me leech off a date. It's bad enough having to be so dependent on my real friends.
I am going to be AWOL for a while as I have problems with my landline. I can go to the library but can only log on for an hour at a time. I feel like my life support is being cut off without being able to spend hours on end on Jezebel and GT. #Groupthink
I have occasionally mentioned on here what I was cooking and fellow Jezzies have kidded that they will be around shortly. I think you are overreacting, which suggests there might be other reasons beyond this guy's comments which have upset you so much. His remarks merely served as a trigger. He is a friend who happens to be male not your boyfriend or partner, when you might not deem it a joke. I know my gay male friend has to dash off home if we met up during the day so he can have his husband's meal on the table for when he arrives home, as he got cross if it isn't ready. He is the only person I know who acts and is treated by his partner like a 1950s housewife at times. TBH if a guy said that to me I would just take it as a compliment to my culinary skills. In fact on one occasion a friend almost brought around a male colleague who wanted to invite himself along to my place for dinner on the basis of what she had told him in the past about my cooking. #Groupthink
Just say you have a surrogate Ghanian foster family and saw first hand some of the racist issues they had to deal with when you were a child. That way you are not claiming that you know what it is to be black in a predominantly white society, just that you observed what your black family members experienced. #Groupthink
Tilt your head back towards the ceiling so your face is parallel with it. Purse your lips and relax them. Repeat a number of times. You should feel the skin beneath your chin tighten. I use it to prevent a turkey neck and tighten the jawline. #Groupthink
What has being open minded got to do with a particular genre? It is a genre because it follows certain conventions and in traditional Romance that is heroine meets hero and after a series of misunderstanding they live happily ever after. It is pure escapism where the female reader can identify with the heroine as opposed to gritty realism. Heroine meeting hero and then hero deciding he prefers men rather undermines the escapism element. As you say here is a niche interest for the latter so maybe there is a market for a sub genre of Romance featuring transsexual characters. However one mtf transsexual has already denounced the book's portrayal of women like herself. In fact, unless it is written by a MtF trannssexual it could be seen as just a cynical exploitation of their situation by publishers anxious to make a quick buck. Nothing particularly open minded about that
To my mind he looked a lot more handsome when he starred in the BBC production of "In the Line of Beauty back in 2006. Now, apart from the eyes, he looks rather ordinary.
I thought he was a gay friend of the family's (never having seen the programmes only the occasional clip on Jezebel) by the way he was allowed to be with the sisters whilst they discussed the disintergrating marriage
How can it be though unless the male protagonist also turns out to be transsexual. I am not sure who the book's demographic is supposed to be. From the link one MtF transsexual took umbrage at the book title and the plot twist centring on disclosure. If it is aimed at a traditional CIS female romantic market then are they likely to identify with and fantasize about being the heroine? Anyway Virginia Woolf already did a rollicking romance about a MtF transsexual in the shape of Orlando. (the character not the resort).
I came across it by accident. There was some big event associated with it in Trafalgar Square but it was impossible to hear anything or even really see the big screen. As for next year I am not sure where I will be in a month's time let alone 12.
Was it filled by an internal candidate? Maybe they only went through the motions of recruiting externally when they already had a candidate lined up. In the current market employers (and recruitment consultants)often show appalling manners to potential candidates. Unless we land the job they treat us with contempt. #Groupthink
