@PreposterousHypothesis: Frighteningly on point, my friend. [there was a halloween cupcake, but it is the broken. I mean to say, I just made a pun]
@Kirkat: Right, but these kids were much younger. I never heard my parents swear myself, and I certainly like to use a good "fuck" or "damn" every now and then, I certainly learned those words in school. But up until the 2nd grade, I legitimately was under the impression that "shut up" was a curse word. It's Tyra-worthy because they're SO young.
They are learning it from their parents. They are learning it from their parents. They are learning it from their parents. Parents who might be frustrated, overworked, overtired and unable to deal with their anger in ways OTHER than cursing, but thanks to my many hours sitting in kings family court waiting rooms, I have been the wonderful witness to parents swearing at their infants over dropping their baby bottles and puling off their shoes. That's where they're learning it from.
@sweetcheesus: I always thought that prostaglandins had more to do with inflammation in the uterus than the contractions themselves, but I honestly haven't done more than 15 minutes of research on what VA111913 does.
@wtfox?!: He would just sell all the baby Elephants and then HOW WOULD HE GET HIS PEANUTS.
@egg cream is here, is second tier, get used to it: Advil and other pain relievers don't make your menstrual cramps stop. You're still "contracting." It's just that they inhibit your brain's ability to sense that there's pain afoot. This pill is supposed to make it so your uterus doesn't physically contract anymore, so it's not that you're masking the pain, you're taking away the whole thing that causes the pain.
Ugh, of COURSE we (assuming Neaderthals are part of the definition of "we" which is up for debate itself) were physically stronger back when our brains were less developed. As our brains got bigger, we got weaker because we didn't have to solely rely on hunting and gathering to obtain nutrients, but used our big strong brains to farm and domesticate animals and make hot pockets. That doesn't mean we're less "manly" unless you are honestly a big enough of a neaderthal to thing that masculinity is only defined by brute muscular strength.
As someone would faint from menstrual pain at least once every other month during my teen years, I will be singing "I've got 111913 problems, but my cramps ain't one!"
@SarahMC: Which is one very small group at Notre Dame. Another example of a minority of Catholics making headlines and causing people to jump to conclusions about the majority of Catholics.
@SarahMC: I'm responding to baseless accusations. You need to prove your point.
@Maritsa: But that's exactly the point - they're not the majority. They're what get picked up on the news, and what makes people outraged, but they're not the majority. To paint The Catholic Church and Catholic People with that broad brush is the same as saying that all Muslims are terrorists, etc.
@SarahMC: I think this came up in yesterday's post - but the concept that the Catholic Church has really much power in the developing world outside of a few countries is a misconception. There aren't that many countries (especially in Africa) that are all that willing to change their laws to appease the church. Catholic churches in developing countries are generally more traditional than those elsewhere, but that doesn't mean that they're all that influential in most people's lives.
@morninggloria: Phew! I have met far too many people who legitimately think that Dan Brown wrote a non-fiction book. It makes my brain bleed.
@SarahMC: Where are you getting that assumption from? How do you know that? I'd love to know your source.
@SarahMC: I simply don't understand why you consider them "exceptions" and not the other way around (militant anti-abortionists). That's just unfounded. It's a common assumption, but unfounded.
@morninggloria: please, please, please don't tell me that you're using a Dan Brown book as some sort of indication for how the Catholic Church actually interacts with Opus Dei.
@morninggloria: Opus Dei to the Catholic Church is like the crazy, lunatic uncle living in a shed who only gets invited to Christmas because everyone knows he won't show up.
@lizdexia: I never said anything about the man-run church hating women. Men can't have just-for-pleasure sex any more than women. I think you'll see by my commenting history that I'm quite fair to the Catholic Church.
@SarahMC: Which is why comments painting the Entire Catholic Church in a certain light are unfair. And that's all that anyone and their "nice" stories are trying to prove.
@lizdexia: You're right, but in the context of answering a question about why contraception is against church policy, I was trying to explain it simply. But, yes, the church presumes love in a marriage.
