I think she was simply referring to the fact that as an entertainer, a fairly significant portion of her public persona is tied up with her physical appearance. I certainly didn't hold myself to that standard when I was pregnant, but I'm not in show business. Katie Couric probably felt the same pressure not to get humongous when she was pregnant. And all my friends who've had multiple births say it's a heck of alot easier to get in normal clothes afterwards if you try to keep the weight gain at a manageable level. All the same, I'm thinking B's no stranger to the occasional Ben & Jerry binge during this pregnancy. Stars...they're just like us!
Try not to freak out yet. A couple of thoughts for you...1) quitting birth control is not the same thing as trying to get pregnant. When my husband and I began trying to concieve, I went off the Pill and nothing happened for a year. After having a major fret-fest about my perceived infertility, I realized I wasn't being truly proactive about the process (more like, "I'm stopping birth control and will let nature take its course.") 2) There is a great way to optimize your chances for conception that is dirt cheap and that's by using a basal thermometer. It helps you chart your cycle so exactly by illustrating subtle changes in body temperature that you can actually chart a 12-hour window each month in which you are most likely to conceive. It's easy to do (just keep it by your bed and take/record your temp daily before getting out of bed) and I got pregnant twice in three months (lost the first to a miscarriage) at age 40 using this method. I also stayed in bed with my feet in the air (no kidding) for a 1/2 hour after sex during this time to optimize chances for conception. Good luck to you and try to stay positive!
I work out just about every day, so I shower regularly, but I hold the world's record for longest time between shampoos (eww, I know!). I have thin, flat, dry hair so I can go a couple of days with no problem. Should I choose to *ahem* extend that to say, oh, maybe 5 days, I use Batiste Dry Shampoo spray, which is the bomb. $8 a can buys you 5 days between washes, including daily workouts. It smells good, removes the greasies and adds a shit-ton of volume and texture to your hair. I know this is gross, but self-disclosure is good for the soul.
I happened to be off work with a broken arm when the trial started and watched in great detail. I'd like to throw a thought out there to all the people who assume that the evidence was "tampered" with. There is no proof that any of the physical evidence was compromised...only that with the discovery of Mark Fuhrman's racist comments to a woman writing about police work, the suggestion could be made to the jury that a racist cop was capable/likely to interfere with the evidence of a wealthy black celebrity. I've spent a fair amount of time checking out various interviews he's given to Oprah and other media and have reached the conclusion that Fuhrman was actually a thorough, well-trained detective who had a big ego and liked to sound like a tough SOB with his use of racial slurs. My opinion only, but I believe the evidence was sound...the "reasonable doubt" was brought about by a very smart defense team who successfully exploited Fuhrman's social failings, rather than actual professional ones.
Nutella is one of God's most perfect creations. It should be eaten early and often. There is no need for any "bridge" component like bread or pretzels; a large spoon is all that's needed. This ignorant, litigious woman is a pariah and would do well to move from the US.
@Dancingfrog: I agree with you 100% about the importance of using sunscreen and not smoking. I wasn't trying to promote the notion that a consistent skin care routine can eliminate the negative effects of smoking and sun damage, but I do believe that it can help stabilize & improve your skin, even after some years of bad habits.
There's a wealth of good info in the replies already, but here's one other thought. I have good skin for being almost 53 and did all sorts of bad things when I was younger like sunbathe and smoke. I think the most important thing is to create a skin regimen and stick to it...religiously. Mine is easy: remove makeup every night, use a serum, moisturizer and eye cream before bed and do the same again in the AM. I think the key to success is being consistent with your routine.
OMG, laughing and gagging at the same time! I was afraid I might hurl if I watched the videos, but it's so interesting that fellow Jezzies enjoy them; talk about a guilty pleasure. Two quick questions: 1) the little blackhead remover tool (a metal stick with a sort of hoop on the bottom) doesn't do shit for me. How does one make it work? 2) Has anyone ever prematurely popped a painful undergrounder zit? God, that'll bring the tears to your eyes.
I think both these women are being incredibly petty, but Freezing was way out of line to expect reimbursement for things like extra water use. That being said, Sue and Mr. Sue saved a bundle in babysitter fees (typically $100 - $150/24 hours when booked through a service) and should have presented Freezing and her Mr. with a very generous gift certificate for a special dinner out or some other nice treat. When I've had friends watch my child for one night, I've always delivered a gift certificate the next day, along with a thank-you note. Additionally, $40 per child in spending money and $70 for incidentals for 2 weeks is a bigtime lowball for teens. Freezing may be nickel & diming her friend, but Sue's anger over the $500 is unfair and unrealistic, given the amount of work involved in babysitting teenagers for that long.
@Minabee: Couldn't agree more! I'm actually surprised she allowed Allure to use this tone/theme in this photo...Jennifer Aniston typically does her sexytimes pics in a much more fun, in-your-face way. Anyone remember her fabulous GQ cover wearing nothing but a necktie and a big smile? This picture really squicks me out.
@Margot Keller: OK, thanks to everyone for their replies. I get it now. I was confused when I read the linked article, since it stated that the person he cheated with is a "pre-op transexual". Based on that, I made an assumption regarding what kind of sex they may have had. Having had numerous gay male friends pass away from HIV/AIDS, all of whom engaged in unprotected sex with other men, I felt this may have put Kelly at a greater risk for HIV and thought the article was trying to state the same. I sincerely hope I didn't offend anyone by asking.
Honest question here about the Kelly Osbourne/Luke Worrell situation, so please clue me in. Why is it wrong to mention that he cheated with a transsexual? The message I got from it was that not only was he cheating on her with women, but also with men...which does increase the risk of HIV transmission in the event that Kelly and he were not using condoms. Given their lengthy engagement, they probaby weren't having safe sex. Is it wrong to think that Luke having sex with a man made a bad situation potentially worse? Maybe the headline is meant to suggest that (i.e. not being disrespectful, just describing the situation)?
Lordy, Michelle Williams' dress looks like it was made from a Butterick pattern with fabric from Jo-Ann's! I mean that in the most positive and Christian way, of course.
I feel bad snarking on NP, but the red rose on that blush gown looks sort of garish & out of place. Also, her updo is weirdly tilted to one side. She's such a pretty woman; I had high hopes for some super-gorgeous pregnancy gowns and this one didn't do it for me.
Don't put on Spanx. Trying to wrestle them back up post-pee when you're hammered is like trying to pull up a wetsuit and requires way more coordination than a field sobriety test.
