Whatever your theme, have the hostess ask guests to bring along a favorite family recipe.
I was raised without a religion by my parents. My grandmothers, however, on both sides of the family, were Catholic and schooled me as such. Funny thing was, they really worshipped Mary, hated the Pope (who was he to tell them how many children they had to have) and one of them never went to church. But they did believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do. Personally I'm agnostic beyond that but I do feel the burden of Catholic guilt, because even if my parents (raised Catholic themselves) never once took me to church, they let me go to whatever church my friends were going to if I wanted, and most of my friends were Catholic. And I couldn't receive Holy Communion, because, well, I'm a heathen. I think in the end I'm better for it, though. And I still say a Hail Mary every time I fly, and on the other rare occasions that I do pray, I consider crossing myself my "over and out" w/ god, if she's there...
What bothers me the most about Bachmann is that she admits that she "submits" to her husband as part of their faith. To me, that makes her husband's activities fair game. He would be the one in charge, de facto.
One of my BFFs is a guy I've been friends w/ since we were 12 (we're turning 40 this year!). He had a very troubled childhood and when he was about 14, he read Dianetics and he scared the shit out of me and our other BFF. At just 14, we could see the cult-like draw of this BS and we basically had to talk him down, which fortunately (us being badass ladies who will not backdown when you.are.wrong) didn't take more than a week, but still it was terrifying! My friend is one of the most brilliant people I've ever known, and for him (even though young) to fall for this shit convinced me a long time ago that this was a cult - and I didn't even know about the money angle! I only knew what he kept insisting made sense after reading that book. Sometimes I think this country's biggest industry is really manipulating people with misinformation in order to basically steal from them. Sad.
I'm sure this has been asked already, but I just wanted to try commenting, so, how do we approve comments?
"Tell her I was in a car accident."
One of the best SNL's that I can remember lately!

My poodle can stand on her hind legs for a really long time, and she twirls for treats, but, wow - this is truly impressive! And adorable!
This has probably already been said, but some IUDs, while not permanent, are effective for 10-12 years and the insertion procedure is generally shorter than what is described above. If obtained at Planned Parenthood, an IUD is also considerably less expensive. I know they are not for everyone. Just putting the info out there.
@ObservantUnderachiever: I know; it was the 8th. I just wish he had stuck to the Lennon-McCarthy numbers.
Um, I was with Paul until he got to Give Peace a Chance. That's Lennon's and Yoko's song.
It's all about appealing the to the Male Gaze.

Not to mention that "This idea of plying a woman with alcohol (something that is applauded by American men in private*)" is laughable. I've heard plenty of actual American men say this publicly.
