Yes. Oh heckfire YES.
Let's suppose that the standard 40 hour work week is the baseline at which anything above this amount worked (overtime) is towards either:
a. overtime pay (for non-exempt aka hourly employees)
b. additional work toward possible raise/promotion/beneficial work experience which will add to one's ability to make more money in the future
So "X" is equal to number of hours of overtime
Now I propose that X = Y in which Happiness is balance of the amount of extra work beyond the baseline 40 with the depression mitigating activity. (as in the proverbial work hard, play hard). "Y" is the depression mitigating activity.
So I propose Happiness is when X is = or < Y.
Wait- I'm still working this out but the general gist is that if I work 50 hours a week and that affords me one weekend day snowboarding and a night drinking (10 hours of fun on the weekend) then one would assume the extra work was worth it, especially if one assumes that what you're making at 40 hours is just making your bills work if you live somewhat fiscally responsible-like.
This all was a spontaneous proposition I hope it made some sort of sense. i'm at hour 10 right now at work.
(added) Ok I just had to add that Y MUST be a depression mitigating activity/hobby/benefit not just sitting in your boxers watching old episodes of Firefly all weekend. That's the only way "X = or < Y" must work. Because if "X > Y" then you're doing nothing but working, going home to sleep, shower, then returning to work with no payoff therefore you're definitely depressed.
I would like this in a custom-made cross stitch, please.

What's the name of his daughter? Blu.
COINCIDENCE?!?!
No one died thanks to the friggen band. Yes, the entertainment crew did the rescue while the ship was sideways in the water going down fast.
I need to goggle what the hell happened to that captain afterward.
Which is still more than what I make net. BEFORE expenses.
And tights are not pants.
