Who's "dismissing" the pain of the American people? In fact, there is nothing but complete and uniform acknowledgment of the pain of the American people when god forbid, any American dies. I'm sorry, but it's usually the Americans doing the dismissing of others' pain.
Also, I don't think anyone's disputing that Europe has some not too savory aspects to its culture and history (wiki Eurotrash). I think what's at issue is that multiple points of view are better tolerated in Europe vs. the instantaneous "fuck them" response you often find in the US (like your post).
you see, i'm doing that thing. that thing where one horrible incident from another part of the world generates a shitload of comments about their culture as a whole, how barbaric they are, etc.
yet, funny how no one else waxes on about jewish culture or israeli culture as a whole based on this incident....maybe israel is not "brown" enough. god can you imagine if this guy was muslim? the racist snark would start again.
sorry didn't mean to start a "girlfight" - but apparently making asinine generalizations about muslims or other backwards brown people is dandy and within the realms of "sisterhood".
YAY! I'M SO HAPPY WASN'T BORN IN ALGERIA! EVERY WOMAN THERE IS TREATED LIKE CATTLE! BOMB EM AND LET'S GET BACK TO GOSSIP GIRL!
I don't know, this is a common thing with feminist blogs and its relation to women's rights and freedoms in countries like Egypt and Afghanistan - how to criticize without denouncing Islam as a whole? Seems that to a lot of the neo-feminists, anti-women hatred trumps everything (see I Blame the Patriarchy for prime examples), but rarely do these blogs (usually written by white women who are tired of having to explain their privilege, hence their "edgy" and "ironic" writing style) criticize white privilege or warfare in the name of Christianity. When they do, it's usually aimed towards an individual like Bush or "the red states," but when it comes to Islam - nope! It's Islam as a whole.
Pretty much everyone sucks.
