Why yes, I am single, how did you know?
(Ugh, this post would make some sense if the picture would post. )
I know Hardigree is a Volvo 240 guy, but I have no idea as to what cars you, Ray, or Orosz own. The new tall guy rides motorcycles, I think I remember reading.
This is an important question. SUPER IMPORTANT lol jk no kinda serious lol
2. "Anyone who customizes their car for appearance or audio purposes doesn't know anything about cars and is a moran." Those seventeen subs didn't wire themselves. That Caprice didn't just wake up and decide to accommodate a set of 26" Forgiato wheels because it was feeling chipper. People put in work to make these things happen. Is the juice worth the squeeze? Not to me, but hey, it's their juice.
3. "I have good taste, you have bad taste." It's cool to be opinionated, but you don't have to be a jerk about it. The world moveth not to a lone percussive instrument. Like what you like, that doesn't mean you have to be dismissive of what others enjoy. I'm pretty open minded, and even I can't understand the Texas Slab car style. But I'm not going to attack it. (If anyone can explain Slabs to me, please do. I get that it's showy and loud, but those wheels, WOAH.)
4. "You have to be able to work on cars to really enjoy cars." A deeper understanding of how a car works leads to a greater appreciation, but lil Eggwich powersliding her Barbie Corvette has no idea about the mechanics or physics at work, and could care less. Joy is joy.
5. "Leasing is for idiots." Is leasing often an easier option, and thus not the best option for the consumer? Sure. But it's math, people. Some times it can work for you, sometimes it can't. But it's not inherently evil.
6. "The cars that were around when I was 14-20 are WAY better than anything being made today. And so was the music! I'm not biased or anything, I was just really lucky to come of age in the best seven year period of the last century!" Nostalgia, it's a helluva drug.
7. "You can't work on modern cars, they're just a big computer." No, they are actually composed of a couple computers, and you can totally work on them if you really wish to do so. Granted, it's not as straightforward as pre-80s cars, but it's not impossible.
I could go on, but who really wants to read more than seven points? And I understand these are more fallacies than stereotypes, but seriously, what stereotypes need to die? All of them. Stereotypes are for those that don't want to think and would rather make up their mind about something before they even know what it is. I can respect generalizations, but stereotypes and generalizations are NOT the same thing. Google it if you have to, just please don't bring out the "stereotypes are true lol wut" on me.
How about that? /Mel Allen voice #notawesome
@Frost: My avatar is probably my best contribution to Jalopnik, if I'm being honest with myself.
TTAC is a good site. I'm not trolling. It may not be as lol-tastic as other sites, some of the news postings may be a bit dry, Jack's stuff my be offputting, but I don't think they sensationalize things, nor that Bertel Schmitt is twisting truths to get under people's skin. Just my opinion. TTAC and Jnik are very different things, and I can appreciate both of them.
I think I started reading in early 2008. I got there via a google search on AMC Eagles. I thought for sure my first comments were about AMC Eagles or Pontiac Fieros with MiketheDog and Fuzzy Plushroom, but it seems my first comment was on 4/15/2008 and it was about stupid buses in San Francisco: [jalopnik.com]
Really, my first comment was about that stupid bus?
Also, this was like my fifteenth comment: "Anyone else just buy up as much GM stock as they could afford while it's tanking.
Yes, obviously I'm hoping it's tanking, not just taking a rest before it continues rolling down the hill."
Shit the bed on that! Ford at least rebounded nicely and made up for it, but still, what a bedshitter.
