Well, as the wife of a tenured faculty member at a state college, I do have to remind you that my husband is facing the end of his career and earning capacity while students are at the beginning of their own careers and possibly much higher earning capacity. Right now, though, as providers and consumers of education chances are none of us can afford snacks for everyone. Perhaps we could share? My best memory of AMC and OLTL is the summer that my Mom had chemo I would take her to her treatments and we would sit side-by-side and watch them together. I started watching them all when I was a teen living at home and kept up for many years until I lost interest. But that summer with my Mom brought me back to them and us together if only temporarily and only for a short time at the end of her life. Thanks Erica Kane et al. It still means a lot.

It took you a long time to breakthrough majorly in the business, not because you are not funny, but because you don't have the kind of mass appeal that people like Jay Leno have. I guess my major concern about drug violence across the border is that gangs already harbor illegals at safe houses and use warehouses here as transfer stations. There's no reason not to believe that law enforcement on this side is as easily bribable as on that side. We already see drug-related killings here in southern CA because there are workers here for the cartels (and not just mexicans). Clearly political and economic policies have dictated the US response to drugs coming from Mexico more than any desire to stop the drug trade. We can SEE their growing fields by satellite.

I'm just rereading Charles Bowden's brilliant book about drug economics and violence called "Down by the River". His news is a little old, but not much has changed except the drug cartels' willingness to engage more and more innocent people in their machinations. Mexico is ungovernable due to corruption. How long before that happens here? Drug cartels have RPGs. How long will they keep them on this side of the border?

Hmmmm....I have a couple of photos from when I was 28 and absolutely lovely. I'm 57 now, disabled and will probably never work at a "real" job again. I'd better get these photos in circulation now while I still have time!
