I wonder where Nash gets the idea that a lot of women aren’t writing their own music. Almost all the female musicians I listen to *do* write their own music, and some of them are pop stars.

The female musicians I listen to who write their own music aren’t purely indie rockstars. Some are considered on the verge of pop-ularity (or considered pop by indie standards). A lot of kids today have varied tastes because of all the information choices they have to look at other genres. VV Brown, Paloma Faith, She & Him, Florence & The Machine, Jenny & Johnny, Uffie, and much more. These artists are all on the line of pop and indie.

Kate Nash *is* a pop star. It’s the same old adage that finds a way to put down female musicians and look over their achievements. "You’re a musician? No. You’re a popstar." Pop music is a valid form of music just as any other form. I dunno why an artist would look down their nose at a popstar just because they’re making more money than them.

Oh. Maybe that’s the point.

And let’s not forget. The Beatles were popstars before they were rockstars.

It's hard not to roll your eyes at this because after a certain point, you realize how much the lines of music blur together and how much it doesn't matter who is writing it, because these women are working just as hard as another even if one has the voice, but not song-writing skills. BTW someone pointed out Beyonce? She may have not written a lot of her music, but recently she has written a couple songs on her albums. But why why do we have to put down other women like this? I don't get it. And I hate the tone this article and many of the readers have. You aren't a true artist or worth anything if someone writes your music for you. Well I guess the Jackson Family and Madonna are thrown out the window.
I'm pretty sure he was initially quite offended by this comment and looking for a reason.
[jezebel.com]
But really, as a woman the "you're overreacting" thing really is highly offensive in itself, and any woman who has been told this knows what I'm talking about.

...Oh and the fact that I mentioned Jez is turning into a gossip blog, but that isn't an insult, it's pointing out a fact. I'm not putting Jez down by that. It's clear many people coming in now are into that. I'm just not, so I don't read much anymore.
I was comparing it to a teacher making that sort of comment, I didn't think of him as a bully.
@RaisinGirl is staying, dammit.: the thing is--certain people react to certain things differently. This really is like a bullying situation with a teacher saying, "well who cares so-and-so just said your painting was bad."
That doesn't mean it didn't hurt the person and didn't make them feel like crap.
We can be told not to obsess over things, we can be told over and over what we do is spectacular, but that one negative comment is what puts us away. The guy was rude. No he wasn't some horrible human being here, he was just rude. But he *was* rude, and that's entirely the point.
@HolyMollyNYC: True, Jez is systematically adding more gossip into their daily posts--probably within a year it will be considered more of a gossip blog.
@HellsMells: Something that bugged the hell out of me was him taking those acting classes and barely attending or sleeping in them--like yanno, a celebrity gets to do what a celebrity wants. So glad the profs gave him bad grades.
@autonaimee: I guess they need to feel less guilty about wanting to fuck a jerk.
@nesoxochi: yeah, it's probably her fault for being insulted by him and acting polite.
I think the point is if he didn't care for the speech, it wasn't really the situation for him to be voicing his opinion. It was simply rude. I don't know that this denotes his douchbaggery, although I feel he's become more of one since he's climbed the rungs of success, but it shows he isn't very bright about how to act socially.
Don't you love it when a man tells you you're overreacting? #overreacting
Uh bunnies are totally cute but totally embarrassing to be compared with.
and the implied expression she is giving? Because when people make certain faces, they are conveying emotion. And the only way for us to know ourselves is to infer what emotion she is having. So lemme guess--brainy like an owl? #NoNotAtAll
No--they're only criticizing her face. So technically not her body.

That's sarcasm. #NoNotAtAll
yes, the "vapid, blank stare. "
Okay you know what? If a woman acted the way that CS acts, she would get the riot act. Here is an example: Courtney Love. People are comparing him to Lindsay. Oh no, Courtney Love is much more comparable. She has not been given any allowances for her drug problems, her mental problems, her perceived promiscuity, but we've got Charlie Sheen doing this crap and some people, like you, are saying "YOU GO BOY! FUCK THE SYSTEM!"

Why is it okay to drag a woman across the coals, but when a man acts the same way, he is patted on the back? No, Hollywood won't have it, but people say he's a rebel, he's a bad boy, and he's cool for it.

Courtney Love is just a whore, a horrible person, and a drug addict, and a drug addicted woman is more looked down on than a drug-addicted man (now look to Lilo). Courtney Love has neglected and rejected her daughter pretty publicly, and she is admonished for it. Charlie Sheen has much younger children, and he's a violent coke addict. No, neither of them have behaved appropriately, so why is this man considered one of your idols? Next to MLK and Gandhi, who both actually led revolutions in their country--they weren't severe drug addicts who had pampered lives and who didn't care about their children.

And so what if MLK may have cheated on his wife, or Gandhi loved pussy or was even prejudiced at times? These people still led revolutions in their countries and the affect on that scale cannot be compared to some movie star who thinks he's god.

And if there's any former celebrity drug addict to look up to, it's Robert Downey Jr. He has beat it and made an amazing comeback. He is respectful to everyone around him, and he's not neglecting his teenage son.
Hunter S. Thompson was crazy like a fox.
My loins do not need to be girded from CS. They have never been fiery due to him, ever.
@barelylethal: I didn't mean for my answer to do that either. I'm not sure what the point is of this person attacking me--I think she's angry I made a mistake, but that's the reason people continue research before they finish their study, or whathaveyou.

Admitting a mistake, no matter how embarrassing the mistake may be, is not enough for some people.

I'm not offended by you at all, barelylethal, and I'm sorry if you read it that way. I actually don't like arguments and I'm generally a shy person, so let me fade into the wallpaper here.

Read whatever you want for whatever reasons--that's what writers write for: the pleasure of the readers.

@la.donna.pietra:
Yes I made an error, I admitted it. Criticizing my spelling skills in an informal context, unless it's completely unreadable, is just another way of telling a person you're better than they are.

Fortunately for the faceless internet, I need not prove my accomplishments.

No, I will not continue discussing this. There's a reason the article is not written yet. There's a reason it's not published.
