<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Blake/Serena & Penn/Dan Pucker In The Park]]> @Mafalda para Presidente: The purse is called the Bedelia by Loeffler Randall (pdf). It comes in nude, cream, black and navy.

I know because I happened to spot it back in May. It used to be priced at $825, but some places now sell it for about half.

<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Chandra Levy: Why Your Mother Always Said To Wear Clean Underwear]]> I'm appalled that WaPo devoted so much manpower -- three reporters -- and time -- one whole year -- to what is basically an exploitative series about a young woman's tragic unsolved murder.

It's not like we don't have more serious matters deserving of so much investigative resources. Like the frakup leading to the war, or the countless other instances of the Bush administration's abuse/misuse of power. Or even what lead to the current mortgage crisis or spike in energy prices. Jeebus.

<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Blogging Towards Bethlehem]]> I've never bought chic(k) lit because I can't stand 'em, and told my friends to stop giving them to me as gifts. They're just pulp romance novels with signature accessories, and I've detested pulp romance novels since reading a Barbara Cartland when I was 12.

But you love Jane Austen, they say, and I say uh, what's your point? Jane Austen is not chic(k) lit, she and Plum Sykes et al have absolutely nothing in common!

For a guilty read, I'd rather hang with Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone than any designer-wearing heroine.

<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Is Katherine Heigl Being A "Diva" By Turning Down Her Emmy Nod?]]> @TheUptightMidwesterner @tell Dolly Parton again: Agree. If she was unsatisfied with the way her character was written this season, she could've discussed this with the production team in private, not used the Emmys to bash them publicly on the head for it.

And I wouldn't call it diva behavior. Tacky maybe, not diva. I don't agree with her methods, but she deserves credit for calling it like she sees it, same with Isaiah Washington and Knocked Up.

<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Loose Lips]]> Ahem. I'm a Lakers fan... a big enough Lakers fan that I blog about it. Still, they sucked in game 4, and gotta agree, as much as Kobe is talented, I never liked his attitude. His self absorption often gets in the way of winning. As for the 20 shots comment, I don't have a problem with it; he's an adult.

As for the rape charges, we can't say for sure he's guilty, but even if he wasn't, it pissed me off that he didn't use a condom and brought his unprotected peen back home to his wife.

I'm glad Obama is fighting back with his anti-smear web site but the whole Democratic Party should really run interference if they want him to win.

<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @circlelinelovah: It's really a shame that his religion is even an issue. I long for the day when we won't even blink an eye voting for an atheist for POTUS.

@SinisterRouge: And all I'm saying is, making a blanket statement based on one's own limited anecdotal experience doesn't add anything relevant to the conversation.

Having said that, it's good to hear that you're considering voting for Obama. You may get heated in your comments here, but you're certainly not unreasonable.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @marin79:

Why is everyone so quick to blame everything on racism?

I don't see anyone here claiming that. I certainly am not. But the ugly reality is that it's a factor in some voters' minds, as the videos I provided @citymuse attest. Just as there are those who refuse to vote for Hillary because she's a woman, there are those who won't vote for Obama because he's black, and my point is there's no question his opponents would exploit that in the general and Obama's campaign should be ready and vigilant with its response.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @SinisterRouge:

Funny cuz the only people that ever bring up the "Obama is painted as Muslim" rumor is OBAMA supporters.

In response, I'm reiterating what @zebrasocks said, and what I said in reply @citymuse.

Also, not sure exactly what you meant, but if you believe or are implying that only Obama supporters are making it an issue, that's a generalization not supported by facts. Perhaps this:

and this:

would convince you otherwise. By the way, Real News is an excellent member supported news network online, with an international crew of reporters and analysts. They don't have a dog in the nomination fight.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @zebrasocks: Yes, it's definitely out there, especially in right wingnut blogs, forums and sites and viral e-mail. I have an acquaintance who is a Christian and supposedly computer savvy, but because he received the "Barack Hussein Obama is a Muslim" e-mail from someone he trusts, he absolutely believes it, to my utter shock. Aside from the religious bigotry, there are of course, racial overtones to this, because if Obama had light skin, the rumor wouldn't have legs.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @Lymed: It's really disheartening that we even have to set the record straight about Obama not being a Muslim, or that he's not against Jews, or that his heritage is not "American enough", because it's further proof that there are those among us who still have not evolved beyond religious and racial bigotry. Is it widespread? Not as much as it used to be, but it's still out there and there's no doubt that unscrupulous, scummy political operatives will use it against him.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @ronaldpagan: I'm skeptical of the claim, too. Hillary made calls and choices during her campaign that I didn't like, but I refuse to believe that she would knowingly sanction something like that.

And yeah, seems like she has some staffers/supporters that are completely off the rails in their support of her (I'm looking at you, Lanny Davis), but this one, if true, crossed the line and has no place within Hillary's circle or even the Democratic Party.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @Lymed: That is disgusting. Who sent her the e-mails? Yes, it's obscene that some people are willing to exploit the tension considering that many Jewish Americans supported the civil rights movement; some even co-founded the NAACP.

I think Barack Obama's "war room" should address racial attacks like these. Jewish and African-American tensions today, Latino and African-American tensions tomorrow; it won't stop until it's confronted head on. They're very damaging once they go viral, in the same way that "Barack Hussein Obama is Muslim" bullshit refuses to die. Perhaps another speech on race might be good, too.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> @tweenmama: I understand where Moe is coming from in using the term and I know she didn't mean to offend. I just question whether it's necessary, considering that using, say, the "N" word given a similar context would be unsettling, to say the least.

]]>
<![CDATA[citymuse commented on Would It Kill You, America, To "Surprise Us, And Let A Black Man Guide Us"?]]> According to the article Moe linked, Rep. Rob Andrews claims that "he received a phone call shortly before the April 22 Pennsylvania primary from a top member of Clinton's organization and that the caller explicitly discussed a strategy of winning over Jewish voters by exploiting tensions between Jews and African-Americans".

This is a huge disappointment if true. I would expect this from Repubs, but not fellow Dems, not only because it's despicable, but because attacks like this by someone from our side is more damaging.

My question though is why Andrews just spoke about it now. Why leak this to the press instead of telling Hillary and getting the top aide fired? Getting this addressed internally by her and the Democratic leadership is the best way to handle this.
