Oh my. You baited me. Holy crap. Tass-ick. That is how we pronounce it over here anyway. It is Slovak for "Weaver." I always liked imagining my ancestors starting a thriving frozen chicken nugget business, so that's cool.

Yeah, I'm generally really good at anything technology-related, but for some reason I was phased by facebook! I had to get my little sister to explain it to me, which meant major mocking! But at least there you can message back & forth in a longer and more private forum.

The whole thing is incredibly disturbing since the Fed basically forced the deal with JP. Every investor in Bear was furious since the break-up value of the firm was far more than $2/share. But the alternative was bankruptcy, which would have flooded the market with assets at a fire sale price, creating huge writedowns at all banks & more of the same widespread panic that brought down Bear. Then the Fed opened the discount window (unlimited funding) to Lehman so they didn't go down like Bear. However if they had done the same thing for Bear, they would be fine since it wasn't an issue with the business - just a run of the bank. I don't think they really have an answer, but in this case I think the alternative would have taken down all of Wall Street. And love or hate Wall Street, but it's a driving force of the economy & has to exist.
So yeah, I'm not a fan of the various candidates economic plans & think the president should stay out of the economy, I'm not really a complete free market thinker. But I believe the fed & the treas do have a place in helping the economy. Last Friday/this weekend, the fed was basically btwn a rock & a hard place and I think the forced the option that had (relatively) less collateral damage. But that's just my perspective.
Btw, if you're on facebook, I'm Marin Seventy-Nine - easier to talk there!

FWIW, it is great to see someone calmly and rationally taking on the Clinton apologists. I don't have the time or the stomach to wade through all of their posts, much less respond to them all. Lately Jez has become a bit groupthinky in its promotion of the idea that if you're not for Hillary, you're not for feminism and it is oh-so-tiresome.

having never lived or worked or maintained close friendship with anyone from Edmonton, I can't comment with very much authority, but having been there, knowing the province of Alberta and the general reality of living in the prairies of central canada, i can say with utmost conviction that unless this is your dream job, DO NOT ENGAGE. but - there is mad money in alberta right now. (it's just canada's texas is all)
