I just stopped by there on my way home to pick up a couple gift card/money cards and decided to get $50 visa cards for each of my nephews and some itunes cards for neices and nephews instead of cash or a check or getting them something they don't want. I remember loving gift cards (visas can be used anywhere) and the itunes cards are always a great idea for teens with ipods or iphones (they all have them) AND it seems more like a gift then just a check they have to bring to the bank or have their mom's cash and with my in law 20 something nephews the visa cards cut out the hassle of cashing the check. So you CAN get decent gifts for some people on your list in most of these little shops.
I don't know if this is something you're interested in doing, and it's dependent on what area you live in, but I returned to nannying (my job during college) after career issues (and this was BEFORE the economy went insane) and it's been overall a great decision because I have a flexible schedule (no more work weekends!) and I'm being paid a really competitive rate. There are agency nanny jobs/ care jobs/ house sitting/ errands / cleaning / household management temp jobs options too, at places like sittercity.com and I never pay a fee to any agency, my clients do. I love fruit. Not canteloupe so much, but fruit and vegetables. I am trying to lose weight so I'm eating more salads, etc, and I haven't eaten meat since I was a kid partly because of the mad cow outbreaks, the bird flus, etc.. and you still are screwed buying fruits and veggies! Arghhhhh.
I have always wanted to get clear lenses for really cute sassy 50s glasses but that would make so hipster I'd die. ;(
