Cards fans are the nicest of the opposing team fans that come to Wrigley Field. I know as I used to work six blocks from Wrigley, and would share my EL train with fans coming back from games. The Cardinals fans would offer you a seat if the train was full. The Cubs fans never did - they were too drunk!

From today's Crappy Hour: "I don't think it was a gaffe b/c I've actually been to Landstuhl (in 2002), AND Walter Reed (over several days last year). It's my job. Personally, I think if you want to visit the troops to thank them for their service and give them your support, you don't need the flying news circus to document it and score political points. But then, I think donating money to charity should be anonymous too."

Side note: I "worked from home" for two weeks this month and basically had to integrate showers back into my life. My coworkers don't know it, but they're thankful.

Just back from Blighty with a stinky cold, but I think I liked it better than I usually do. Do guys really have a problem with a woman doing something that sounds so adventurous? Good Lord. I just read Spitfire Women of WWII by Giles Whittell and cannot recommend it highly enough. "Tough Babies" doing their bit in the 1940s. Utterly inspirational.
Next time I see a piece in the Grauniad telling me I should see Katie Price as a heroine, I'm tempted to fire off a "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" email all about Diane Barnato Walker and Jackie Sorour. Thems heroines.

I'm saying this on your profile instead of the thinking and drinking thread, because I don't want to get banned myself, but I agree with you - disallowing discussion about the bannings is unfair. E-mailing the moderators about them is completely different from discussing them in a public forum with other commenters, and I am kind of disturbed by the way in which no one is allowed to discuss the semi-misuse of power that goes on around here...
