It showed, sometimes there's a lag with comments. :D
I was thinking of a picture I saw on that forum when I mentioned the white hair. Great minds think alike!

If you keep your hair long until you are a grandmother, your grandchildren will think you are the awesomest grandma ever. They will write memoirs about watching you brush your long white hair. That's what usually happens, right?

Yeah, I think some people just make a career out of disapproval. Like everything is an extension of them, and if anyone has different taste it's like "HOW CAN THIS BEEEEEEE"

I'm trying like hell to work "grandes horizontales" into my regular vocabulary and shall let you know if and when I have any luck doing so. Thank you.

One comment read, "Oh I didn't mean you are fat, just that you are ugly" Ha! That whole thing just begs the question: if it really was misunderstood, why not cross-post the issue here in Jez? I doubt many of us knew about this on BISJ. I emailed the first of Stephs rant to the editors, thinking they'd post it here, but no such luck.

Guuurl, when did she admit that?!? Cuz when I emailed them about SJs WAY back in the day (even used words like baiting and testing), I got no response. Link please!

I'm just considering a trip back to Blighty-- despite the fact I've been warned about the weather! I have all of August off and half of Sept, until I have to be in Chhatisgarh, Central India to research and shoot a doco on the Naxalites, those fun loving Maoist insurgents. I thought I could go back, pinch my mum's car, annoy some family and friends, then trip onwards to India, where I'm going to take the train to Varanasi and maybe down to Goa, before getting to work. I simply love train journeys, and the US dollar still has some traction in India (unlike in Europe!) which is nice. And, big plus, I can buy all my Xmas presents at the bazaar in Mumbai! (Which, confusingly enough, my Indian friends all still call "Bombay").
Sorry to hear about your rotten cold. Feel better soon!

Yeah- I do think the guy was just clueless, rather than evil. Melissa blogged about it, here's the link: [shakespearessister.blogspot.com]

You're really writing a book about this? What are the odds!
So cool, I would love to hear more. What stage are you on for the project, is there's a title/publication date I should look for?

I e-mailed those two links from spiegel to Melissa at the Shakespeare's Sister blog, she does ongoing features on sexism/racism in the media. I credited you. Danke. ;)

Of course he is saying all that- he isn't the one in control right now. Believe me, I know. My ex- was moping around the house this morning because I snapped at him. But EVERYtime I have taken him back- he is wonderful and amazing, until he gets comfortable.... and then pewp.
We'll stand strong together!

Hey thanks for letting me know!. Philthyist- the After School Special. But srsly, it also helps for me to air it- and to be reminded that I am not crazy. The scary part is more how I found how common it is. Its a good feeling to know you aren't alone, and completely crazy.
To be honest, he has really messed with my head- to the point where I have doubted myself, and blamed myself. It is an amazing thing when you realize you have been emotionally manipulated by someone.
Good luck with everything- and word to the wise? Dont ever take him back. I have been dating this guy off and on for a very long time. Living together was kind of the last ditch attempt to make it work.
