Should depressives and bipolar people face societal stigma for their diseases too? How about heart disease patients?
Africa is a vast continent with more than 50 countries. It is not a country. While I agree that the gold and diamond trade take a large toll on the lives and economies of many people in Africa, neither of those industries have anything to do with (or are really anywhere near) Somalia.
I could kiss you for dropping a William Easterly reference.
I don't know how to feel about this article...
#3--they were my first brief thought, but asexual is a sexuality, like homosexual. Everyone and their uncle knows that Warren Beatty hasn't been asexual for most of his life.
Tulane has "safe ride" and also police escorts. With safe ride, they mandate that students wait outside for the bus to arrive. Several students were mugged last semester while waiting outside for safe ride to arrive.
Police escorts can take twenty minutes or more to arrive and sometimes they will refuse to take you farther than they deem their 'zone.'
Amazing city. The school was a middling experience for me but it really depends on your department. One of my two majors was a small department and I developed really strong relationships with my professors, but some of my peers never had that experience in their larger majors.
The community service record is what always sells people (and had a lot to do with my decision) but honestly that program is a lot of BS with a little bit of success. However, there are countless fantastic opportunities to give back throughout the city and Tulane can help you connect to those.
I can give you more specific advice if you want
responding to promote, because your comment should be seen.
I am a recent Tulane graduate and I really need to disagree. While I find many faults with the It's Not Enough campaign, the statistics that Barry cites here do not show the full picture.
There were 6 reported rapes of Tulane and Loyola students BY STRANGERS who either abducted or first physically assaulted the girls during my sophomore year. And that is just reported. Obviously, on any college campus there are scores of unreported or unconsidered rapes. These 6 reported rapes were all extremely violent and, in the case of three of them, perpetrated by a serial rapist who stalked the block that lines the campus library.
New Orleans has a lot of issues, but comparing Tulane to, say, U Penn, where the campus itself is situated within a poor and violent neighborhood (Barry's words), is like comparing apples and oranges. While New Orleans is a deeply violent city (though God help me I love it and can't imagine leaving), the neighborhood surrounding Tulane is an affluent--scratch that--rich as hell area. They are different situations altogether.
this needs to be in the running
FWIW, there were no deaths the night of the BCS game. Every other day this year thus far there's been a murder in New Orleans, pretty much, but that guy's not dead.
Wow, I've never realized how much he looks like Jason Sudeikis before. It's a shame he didn't last longer for the SNL potential.
Does anyone else see Disney's Pocahontas in Heidi Klum's dress?
She has no fat on her body for warmth
The greatest Italian hero of all.... the Meatball Hero.
oooh that just warmed the snarky cockles of my heart
You just know that Sarah Michelle Gellar put on that dress, looked herself up and down, and said "Yes! This is just high fashion enough to get me back in the press."
YUCK. She looks like that pretty blonde trustafarian in college decided to Scarlett O'Hara her wall tapestry.
I'm curious if anyone can answer this: I work for a faith-based organization but it maintains 501 C 3 status as an independent non-profit. It is considered part of the Church's social ministry though.
Technically, would my job be subject to this ruling?
