I apologize for criticizing how you run your site; it's your sandbox and you make the rules, and it's hypocritical of me to attack you for those rules, as I've barked down others for doing so. I'll stay away permanently. Best of luck.

It was the puns, right? I'm (bon) mot taking responsibility. It's all MorningGloria's fault. Her jokes make me want to gag and droll. On the mischief this is an April Fool's prank, I say you got me hoodwink, line and sinker.

Also, if it is an April Fool's joke, it's one that highlights the flaws in the Jezebel attitude.

Anna, I don't believe the decision to remove commenting from the posts on Jezebel was the best one that could be made. A lot of the content on Jezebel seems to exist for the sole purpose of eliciting reader comments and a lot of the readers only read because they can comment. I have long believed that the Jezebel attitude toward commenters was an overly adversarial one. What is the harm if a post becomes an echo chamber? If all of those commenters feel a similar way about an issue, does it really harm anyone that they respond similarly? Also, what is the harm if a comment isn't super high quality? Sometimes the best commenters have nothing more productive to say than "Ooh, pretty dress." Certain blogs have disabled comments, but others do not actively monitor comments and instead depend on reader reports of abusive comments. I read a lot of Jezebel posts largely for the comments and have my doubts that the improvement in content will make up for the absence of Jezebel's greatest commenters.

Even if this is a very well thought out April Fools, it is also something to consider in the long run. I enjoy commenting and occasionally learn something insightful from my fellow commentors, but most often it becomes an echo chamber, adding little and detracting from the real issues. Best of luck one way or the other.
