Poor guy? pretty sure he deserved that. (and sounds like he still deserves it).
interesting - I don't find Julia that way at all! She is my favorite character on the show.
Actually under this rule, insurance technically would cover condoms, as long as you had a prescription for those condoms.

But nice try at concern trolling.

Wow. Lady Gaga really can't win with some of you, huh?

I think what she said is pretty great and I applaud her. If only "perfect" examples of women who have never been affected by insane beauty and weight standards are allowed to talk about it then I guess we're pretty screwed.

Don't you all have better things to do with your time than hate?

I don't think he was performing an abortion, he was doing miscarriage management (which is medically the same thing basically) - but as an ER doc that is his job in a medical emergency. He should absolutely NOT have been a dick about it.
Are you in the U.S.?

laws regarding teens' ability to consent to reproductive health services, including abortion. vary. Some states allow teens to consent for all repro services without parental involvement -- just as a 17 year old wouldn't need their parents' permission to birth a child, she doesn't need their permission to terminate a pregnancy. Some states do require some form of parental involvement for abortion care. This chart tells you which state has which law:

The general idea is that reproductive and sexual health services are kind of different from other things - they are personal and vital and private. I personally don't believe a parent owns their child's sexuality or body, so I fully support teens being able to consent to their own services. others believe differently.

No one can legally be "forced" to have an abortion. It violates a physician's requirement of informed consent. There's really nothing messy about that.

What is more messy is the kind of emotional, familial relationship aspect - can a parent say, "I won't support you if you have a baby"? Sure. But they cannot drag a minor kicking and screaming into a provider's office and have a legitimate health care provider perform an abortion on an unwilling person.

I'm still confused by your answer - putting your own child aside, and your own relationship with that child (which I'm sure is great esp because you are already thinking about how to talk to them about sex) -- at the end of the day, do you or do you not support the idea that teens can consent to their own sexual health services?

It's sounding like you are saying no but I'm not sure you actually realize you are saying no.

Actually there are many school-based health centers that do dispense contraception.
These comment threads always amaze me - do you all really not know that teens can consent for reproductive health care without parental involvement in most places (U.S.)?

It's pretty basic.

In most places in the States, teens are able to consent to reproductive health services - including STI treatment and testing and contraception - without parental consent. Are you saying you oppose that?

Also - this quote "And do you also trust all 13 year-olds to be mature enough to use other forms of protection from STDs, once they figure they can't get pregnant?"

is really funny to me. Do you trust a 13 year old to be mature enough to birth and parent a child?

EVEN IN THE MIDST OF PROP 8 RULING AND HANDEL RESIGNING THIS IS THE BEST THING I'VE SEEN ALL DAY
Kelly Osborne is channeling Kelly Taylor of BH, 90210 circa season 1 when she takes diet pills to be skinny but becomes a total bitch.
I agree. As a nonprofit employee, if we needed to pay all of our interns we wouldn't be able to have any.

I 100% paid my way through college AND grad school and still managed to have meaningful, unpaid internships. Could I go to DC and intern at the White House? No, because I couldn't have mommy and daddy pay for an apartment for me, but I still have a pretty awesome career.

well the "war on women" has been pretty much covered in major media throughout 2011:
"If they changed their name to Women's Health Services or something generic it would be harder to oppose them. It would also convey their mission better"

um PP provides health care services to men, too.

really? Your description is so off base from my experiences - lived in various parts of NJ (southern, central and now Hoboken) for years and definitely don't think it's a "terrible terrible place to live." Considering we're one of the most populous states in the country, clearly there's something that people like. The gorgeous beaches? Delicious produce? Great schools? Proximity to great cities?
what a great idea and a strong base for an effective and communicative marriage. /
Wow this post sure brought out the trolls, huh? Was this cross-posted?
