People can say the most disrespectful, derogatory, hurtful things about women in the military (while unintentionally putting male soldiers down too) and never be considered anti-American or unpatriotic. Ain't it funny how that works.
Of course you are making sense. The people who make this argument are pissing on our shoes and telling us its raining.
Except you can't make a comparison between oppressed groups and men as a group. You said a vast majority of men would step up and protect women. But they don't. So I'm not sure whether you're just quibbling with me because "man-hating" bothers you and SOMEONE'S gotta stand up for the men or what.
Well I'm pretty man-hatey. If a vast majority of men would step up and protect women then no place on earth should have problems with the rape/abuse of women and girls. The claim that men are just *biologically* compelled to protect women and abandon their missions has no basis in fact whatsoever.
How is it possible that the myth that "men protect women" has stayed alive? Could anything be further from the truth? Unless sexual assault and harassment is being classified as a form of protection or something?
What exactly are you contesting?

The AKC is not concerned with conditions in puppy mills and actually works hard in opposition to any legislation that attempts to raise standards of care. As long as more puppies are born, which means more money in registration fees, they are happy. They don't want Pedigree encouraging people to adopt; that reduces demand for puppies from breeders/pet stores, which cuts into the AKC's bottom line.

If you follow the puppy mill issue you will find that any time a one of them is shut down and a large-scale rescue takes place, the mill has AKC certified dogs.

False. Your CHOICE (!) to put something in your own body does not put the people around you at greater risk. Your meat consumption does not cause others to get heart disease. Your CHOICE not to vaccinate DOES put others at risk.
My point is that "AKC registered" means nothing besides the dog had two parents of the same breed, and the breeder paid the AKC for the registration. It does not indicate that the breeder is practicing ethically or even that it is not a puppy mill.

But re: your comment, it doesn't really matter to me whether breeders do it for money, y'know?

I am not sure how this comment relates to my comment.
None taken. I already know the AKC is shit so I don't need your Googling.
Ain't religious freedom grand!?
Many puppymills have AKC registration. All it takes is $$$. Puppy mills comprise 80% of the AKC’s business.
I assumed you meant financial support. Linking to breed rescue sites is literally the least the AKC could do.
What rescue groups does AKC support, exactly?
"Westminster Kennel Club is sanctioned by the American Kennel Club. Their decision to distance from the reality of shelter animals is right in line with the AKC’s staunch support of puppy mills. They can be counted on to oppose any progressive legislation anywhere that seeks to curb the abuses of puppy mills, because the AKC makes it’s money by registering pure bred dogs regardless of their health the conditions under which they were bred or any consideration whatsoever for the wellbeing of the dogs. The AKC makes big bucks of puppy mills and the pet trade. They could care less that millions of dogs, many from AKC registered breeders are dying in our nations shelters.

The Pedigree ads were the one redeeming feature to a show that otherwise mainly drives the pet trade. Too bad."

Where do you live?
That's unfortunate about the rescues; at mine the "adoption coordinators" and fosters work together and we have lots of events to let potential adopters meet the animals. Although I'm a little confused ... do you just want to foster or do you want to put your crisis situation skills to work by trying to find permanent homes? Because if you don't want to do the latter then starting your own rescue is prob not a good idea. Or maybe it would be if you didn't also have a full-time job. It sucks that the one thing I really care about (rescuing animals) is not at all lucrative so unless I somehow come into a ton of money I will have to continue working for a living while contributing what I can to the rescue. :( #Groupthink
I feel you. I would start by volunteering with an established rescue group (unless you've already done so!)--they always need transporters, handlers, fosters, etc. You can take on more responsibilities as you get more comfortable. That's what I've been doing, although unfortunately rescuing animals isn't something that will make you any money. Or you could go buck wild and just apply for a job at a place like Best Friends and make a total life change (which is what moving to the middle of Utah entails I'd assume!). I think about this a lot so feel free to message me if you wanna chat more. #Groupthink
When applied to a woman, "self-respect" often means "respect for patriarchal sexual norms."
Progressive pro-choicers really need to get it in their heads that anti-choicers/conservatives are not anti-abortion because they "love babies." I am not trying to be rude, but the left's natural optimism and stupid belief that "people are basically good" is what keeps us from winning certain battles. It's about woman-hating and people need to face it.
I am very sorry for the shit people are putting you through. My suggestion is to start volunteering regularly. The men will be more quality than the ones who go to bars to meet women, and you will start off with a shared interest! #Groupthink
