@BioLady: I totally agree - plus just because someone is in a position of privilege *now*, it's insulting to assume that they came from privilege and have no understanding of difficulty. Lots of those people have overcome huge difficulties to get to where they are, and that really adds to the message of hope as well.
If this is real, I think it proves that he is actually much more talented than anyone has ever given him credit for. Because in Election, he was convincingly likeable and self-effacing, when in reality he's a big douche! :)
@nothanks: I agree, and the 'facts' are not necessarily facts, but reports from tabloids. Some of it may be true but the tabloids and their anonymous commenters are not good sources.
Someone from the AV Club, in an amazing flash of psychic brilliance said: "Someday Spencer will beat Heidi nearly to death, and she will forgive him." It sent a chill down my spine, because it's SO TRUE.
If anyone is in doubt about the smoking hotness of Christopher Walken, watch him sing and dance and strip in this clip from the 1981 movie Pennies From Heaven:

I've never seen tap dancing rendered so sexy before! #christopherwalken
@nellie1234: I went to Catholic school as well, and not only did the teachers promote 'natural' (ie, dangerous!) methods of contraception, they told us a heap of lies about how condoms were only 66% effective. This was to a group of teenage girls, who were particularly vulnerable in that lots of them were sexually active but still learning about contraception. So, so dishonest.
Yeah, it really seems that lots of people who do these 'cleanses' (you're not cleansing anything!) attribute great feelings to them, when the great feeling can be logically explained by the end of starvation and your body functions returning to normal.
It's unlikely that this will change anything about Oprah, who is a notorious promotor of pseudoscience, charlatans and woo. She abuses her position, in my opinion. There's a good piece on it in Newsweek from a couple of months back:

Did he use Myles na gCopaleen or is that a Jezebel substitution? If the former, HOW DARE HE use the name of one of Ireland's best writers to head up his screed of douchebaggery?!
I agree too. I never bought the line that SATC was feminist, but I think she's bang on the money here. It's so true, what she says about traditional roles - any female roles that fall outside the traditional vanilla nuclear family perception get some kind of snotty nickname. It shouldn't even BE a role - the age of your husband in relation to yourself is so irrelevant.
@andBegorrah: I'm with you - Karen might be one of the best characters I've ever seen in a sitcom. Can't say enough good things about Pulling.
Karen: "I'm pregnant."
Donna: "Karen!....are you fertile?!"
@clevernamehere: I absolutely agree. I have a good friend who's an atheist and kept her baby that was conceived on a one-night stand. I think for many people it has very little to do with religion, and a lot to do with whether you want to have kids or not.
The idea that a pretty girl would never go for Seth Rogen is so incredibly dumb. Apart from the fact that he's really cute, ALL the exceptionally funny men that I know make out like bandits with the ladies. Ladies love funny men.
@randomnessish: Yeah, it seems the entire pageant industry is a scam designed to suck money out of these awful women. Each contestant has to pay around $700 to enter, and the top prizes are only in the £1000 range.
The thing that drives me crazy about Gwyneth is that she clearly doesn't even understand what detox means - there's proper medical detox that you go through to clear your system of a drug (such as with addicts or alcoholics)...and that's about it. In no way does having fruit juice for a week 'detox' your body in any meaningful sense. Toxins are cleared out by your liver and kidneys. See the clever and lovely 'Bad Science' writer Ben Goldacre on the topic: http://www.badscience.net/category/detox/
I'm reviving this old thread because my three year old girl is OBSESSED with TLM at the moment. She’s particularly smitten by the wedding scene at the end, and is going around uncontrollably proposing to everyone. I was too old for the film when it first came out so am only getting to know it now, and am mildly shocked that something so sexist was produced in recent times instead of back in the 30s.
It’s not just the porny outfits, the stupid love at first sight story and Ariel signing a contract that she hasn’t read (gnnnh!)…the thing that bothers me the most is the horrible passivity of Ariel in her quest. Her safety depends on kissing the prince, yet she won’t do anything to instigate it, but passively waits for him to make the move. She’s a ninny. And I say that to my kid when she watches it, Ariel’s a ninny right? And she says yep, she’s a ninny. But still loves it. Sigh.
And I know it’s just kids entertainment, but this kind of thing is quite insidious really. Also I think Ursula is very sexy. That is all.
Having been pregnant myself, I don't see how any woman could genuinely not know she was pregnant unless she had some gastrointestinal issues as someone mentions above. It's not just about the kicking, there are a RAKE of side effects to pregnancy, even simple pregnancies with no health problems like I had. If you're properly educated, to not notice any of them seems very unlikely indeed. I do understand that some people aren't fully educated or have mental issues that stop them from accepting it. I could also see someone perhaps getting to 5-6 months before realising (although I'd say that's pretty rare too)...but the ones where people go into labour before they realise...I don't know.
This seems like a bit of a pointless editorial...it's currently not possible to get a late-term abortion for 'frivolous' reasons, so what's the issue?
