While I'm here, I love hearing stories of you Italian family (esp weddings!) , your generally amusing/hilarious comments, plus your wise thoughts on so many topics. You just seem like such an insightful and delighting person! Good night! :)

@LaComtesse: The mother does deserve a degree of compassion and most likely some medication.
However, I'm still glad the poor kid got away from her (though as I said, I wish he had found a loving foster/adoptive family).
I have a foster sister. She moved in with me after her mentally ill family started having similar delusions (well really after the already present delusions started to really escalate and get scary).
A few weeks after sis moved in with me, two of her family members (one was the mom) burnt down the family home- while the rest of the family was still indoors. I'm so thankful that my sister wasn't around to be killed or injured. She had already suffered enough emotional abuse - similar to what the kid in the story seems to have gone through.
So, again, I do hope the mom has found peace from whatever was ailing her.
But, I'm not ok with any child growing up with a parent who calls him or her the anti-christ (and all the physical danger that the kid is likely to find his/herself in such a family). Very sad.
FYI - from your comments I can tell that you are a very intelligent and compassionate person. Even though that was sort of a call-out :) I'm glad you did so. It was a good counter point to bring up. Because just about everyone deserves some help and compassion.

Thanks, darling: that's very sweet of you. I actually look forward to Yom HaShoah because it's a big press day (I work in the press dept of my institution) and it gets the word out there as to what we do and share the stories of some amazing survivors with the world. It's an honor to be in the presence of so many people who are willing to share their stories.

Dear LaComtesse;
I hope you had a good day, despite the occasion. I hope it was productive and that you were able to provide help or comfort or whatever work you do.
Your Nutmegger pal, hello.kitty

Good call on checking Snopes for the Lauryn Hill debacle. I forget how much info they have on there!

Just read your livejournal posts re: books. We have the same taste. I hated, hated, hated The Kite Runner. Such a ridiculous book.

@LaComtesseThat's awesome that your mom was a fantasy writer! What did she write? Would I know any of it?
p.s. I have been waiting to use the name Juniper since I was like TEN. Getting this kitten was the culmination of all my childhood dreams...

So I missed your "Childhood Books" poll, but I just wanted to interject that I LOVED the Juniper books. In fact, I wanted to name my daughter "Maeve Faire" at one point... then I turned 12...
The Neverending Story was a big one for me along with The Once and Future King. My mom is a fantasy writer, so I grew up on the witchy stuff, as you put it. :-)
