Congrats on Mamas book! I am thrilled for her and you. I had a crazy week last week, so I missed your announcement. Hooray!
While I'm here, I love hearing stories of you Italian family (esp weddings!) , your generally amusing/hilarious comments, plus your wise thoughts on so many topics. You just seem like such an insightful and delighting person! Good night! :)
@LaComtesse: The mother does deserve a degree of compassion and most likely some medication.
However, I'm still glad the poor kid got away from her (though as I said, I wish he had found a loving foster/adoptive family).
I have a foster sister. She moved in with me after her mentally ill family started having similar delusions (well really after the already present delusions started to really escalate and get scary).
A few weeks after sis moved in with me, two of her family members (one was the mom) burnt down the family home- while the rest of the family was still indoors. I'm so thankful that my sister wasn't around to be killed or injured. She had already suffered enough emotional abuse - similar to what the kid in the story seems to have gone through.
So, again, I do hope the mom has found peace from whatever was ailing her.
But, I'm not ok with any child growing up with a parent who calls him or her the anti-christ (and all the physical danger that the kid is likely to find his/herself in such a family). Very sad.
FYI - from your comments I can tell that you are a very intelligent and compassionate person. Even though that was sort of a call-out :) I'm glad you did so. It was a good counter point to bring up. Because just about everyone deserves some help and compassion.
Man I really wish I could meet you in IRL! You and your mom and all her 'cranberries'!
Dear LaComtesse;
I hope you had a good day, despite the occasion. I hope it was productive and that you were able to provide help or comfort or whatever work you do.
Your Nutmegger pal, hello.kitty
Good call on checking Snopes for the Lauryn Hill debacle. I forget how much info they have on there!
I just wanted to say... I like you. *blush*
Oh, and Miss Quim? I heart you.
Just read your livejournal posts re: books. We have the same taste. I hated, hated, hated The Kite Runner. Such a ridiculous book.
That's awesome that your mom was a fantasy writer! What did she write? Would I know any of it?
p.s. I have been waiting to use the name Juniper since I was like TEN. Getting this kitten was the culmination of all my childhood dreams...
I was just looking at your blog, and I realized we share the same birthday!! Happy Belated Birthday! :)
Happy Birthday!
as always, you're the voice of reason concerning any Jezebel wedding-related posts. thank you!
"obfuscate"!! You made me nerdgasm.
Thank you!! Baby is due April 1st, which makes me around 10 weeks preggo. The Mr. is hoping for a BabyBlondeBoy but it will be a while before we know for sure. The link for my blog is on my page, you can read my incredibly mundane observations about pregnancy (OMG! Morning Sickness!) if you have absolutely nothing better to do.
A gummy bear...WITH A TAIL. That freaked my husband out a little, even though it's not like it was never visible on the ultrasound.
You hit the nail on the head (and very succintly) with why those statements bother me so much. That and there's no way you can disprove the "God's plan" idiocy, since it presupposes that God is inscrutable. It's like the Book of Job, only severely dumbed-down.
Frankly the idea that suffering is random is more comforting than trying to discern some reason behind the horrible things that some people go through.
Awe how kind of you to say so! Judging from your last few comments I feel like I've been adopted! I feel so special!
Howdy! I just wanted to make sure that you didn't take offense to any of my comments today, I sometimes (always) have a hard time expressing my sense of humor. Hope you have a great day!
