I'm still bummed that Federer can't beat Nadal when it counts, but at least the final turned out to be insane. I'm kinda worried that Nadal will go into a slump now that he's lost to Djokovic in 3 straight slam finals...
Amen. Obviously I make exceptions for really pressing deadlines, but, in general, I put in my 8 hours, and then I'm getting the hell out of the office. The work will still be there tomorrow.
As airports go, the ATL airport wouldn't be so bad to get stuck in. It's huge, provides lots of people-watching, offers direct access to the train into the city, etc. I can think of worse airports to be stuck in. (I was stuck in the Tallahassee airport for about 5 hours last year and almost lost my mind.)
Okay, okay, you've all made very convincing arguments. But at the moment I already have a Keurig in my kitchen and about 5 boxes of K-cups in my pantry, so I think it would be more environmentally conscious of me to USE what I have on hand first. :)
Yeah, I don't think it's more difficult to have an abortion as a privileged person. Maybe more difficult to justify having one. But the whole point of choice is that you shouldn't have to justify it anyway.
And then you have to get a grinder, which takes up even more room in the kitchen. And, if you really enjoy having a variety of coffees on hand, then you're filling up half the freezer with frozen beans. If I ever get out of an apartment and into a bigger space, I'll probably go that route...but for now, the Keurig works really well for me. Especially since I like the taste.
"It is kind of hilarious that the non-disposable parts of their operation are recyclable and the disposable parts aren't." I know, right?
I expect that I'll invest in a grinder someday and go the freezing route, but the Keurig is serving me well for now. I figure that I balance out the environmental impact by not eating meat (really about 75% vegan in practice) and recycling everything else I can get my hands on. At least that's how I rationalize it to myself for the time being.
Yeah, but I like the K-cups because I can buy the variety packs, or just a few different boxes of different flavors, and they last for months and months. Harder to keep a huge variety of different fresh coffees on hand. If I ever develop a more regular coffee habit, I'm sure I'll invest in a grinder...
Yeah, but the "add whatever coffee you like" part is the problem for some people. I'm only an occasional coffee drinker—maybe 4–5 cups per week—so I was always buying fresh coffee and not finishing the bag before it got old/stale. K-cups last longer, so I'm wasting less money by using a Keurig.
The environmental aspect bugs me, too, although I wasted a hell of a lot of fresh coffee before I had a Keurig. Last time I checked, the company says they're "working on" making the cups recyclable, so fingers crossed. The company has gone so far as to mark the various components of the machine as recyclable, so at least you can recycle the plastic parts of the machine if it breaks or whatever…
Not so wasteful if you're an occasional coffee drinker like me. I want a single cup of coffee maybe 4 days a week, so I waste a hell of a lot of fresh coffee (going stale) when I tried to use a traditional coffee pot.
Hmm. I'll take a K-cup any day over the "fresh" coffee that someone brews in my office breakroom every morning. The stuff is so strong it makes the whole room reek of cigarettes. Nasty.
But yeah, I've heard some people complain that the Keurig doesn't brew strong enough. If you like really, really strong coffee, it might not be the best machine for you!
YES. I love my Keurig. I'm the only coffee-drinker in my household, and I don't want a potful every morning: Just one cup is all I need. So I was always buying fresh coffee and then not finishing the bag before it got old/stale. After doing a bunch of research on whether you can freeze fresh coffee (verdict: the Internet is conflicted on this point, but most coffee experts say "no"), I got a Keurig last Christmas—and I LOVE IT. My only kvetch is that I wish the plastic cups were recyclable; Keurig says they're working on it...
