I know this argument is used way too much, but while I believe she is making it worse for students who really have been persecuted or who have spoken out against bigoted teachers (and I don't think any Gawker commenters will deny they exist). The kind of teacher who tries to tell you whatever you think he said, he didn't, and you're just confused and simple-minded.
Only... this isn't Oleanna (less swearing and, frankly, more interesting). Hundreds of other people were there to witness exactly what she did, and much of the discussion over it has taken place online for everyone to read.

Also, again IIRC, dear Sarah wasn't enrolled in the class. She could have been testing it out. Why would it be any different from 'I'm traveling here, look at me!' or 'I go to this school, look at me!'? There are some weird moms, especially online, but it was only a few decades ago that visibly pregnant women couldn't be shown on TV or hold jobs dealing with the public.
Luckily, by 2014, that'll be considered SFW.
