At my dad's funeral, a good friend of mine came up, grabbed my hand, and said, "I don't know what to say," then hugged me. I remember that 15 years later. It was so honest. So, if you don't know what to say, just say that.
I am also finding the comments interesting, if by interesting you mean disappointing. She's a wonderful actor who deserves some notice. If she doesn't stand up for herself, who will? Not the studios who want some young "bankable" star to get the limelight usually. Oh, but it's unseemly for women to toot their own horns. We're supposed to be modest and all that.
I would promote the hell out of this comment and heart the snot out of you if I knew how with this new format. Maybe replying to it will at least get it promoted.
But, seriously, yes, totally. Women have always worked. Now that jobs are scarce, people want to push women back out of the workforce by pretending this is some new thing.
I think the star thing is happening to me, too. Plus, it's collapsed instead of expanded. I have the settings the way I want, too! And I keep getting logged out! #Groupthink
I can actually see what they're trying to do. I myself am not crazy about it, but I'm going to give it a few days to see if it grows on me. I can understand why they want to be able to keep their "feature" articles in a prominent place so that makes sense. Also, this new commenting box is cool! #Groupthink
@candleflame: It's weird, isn't it? There is one shop in the town where I live that does not have the attitude. They are family-owned and the mom, dad, and grown kids all work there, so that might be the difference. But, the other bike shops? Total snobs. Even a couple of my friends who are bad ass bikers and LOOK like it get the attitude. I don't get it.
@contrabassic: I was in the same situation a while back as far as the argument. When someone says they were robbed, we may figure the person accused of the crime is innocent until proven guilty, but we don't question that a crime was committed at all in general. Yet, with rape, IMHO, people go beyond not condemning the accused to actually doubting the victim. Frustrating.
@parigote: I struggle with situations like that because I really hate being disappointed. I try to be understanding, but ... yeah, it's hard . I feel like I make sure to make an effort to keep my plans with others, even if I don't feel like going. So, let yourself be annoyed, hang out here, and I bet you'll be totally over it soon.
@North Bronx: We're the same age and the same way! I am actually fine with guys I'm not attracted to, but the ones I want to flirt with throw me for a loop. Gah brain, wtf??
