Just saw your comment. Hrmmmm...well, off the top of my head Lawrence Cohen is a genius and does interesting work on Alzheimer's. Barbara Meyerhoff is great, "Number Our Days," Maurice Bloch, The Birth of the Clinic (obviously), Phillipe Aries--The Hour of our Death, is genius, Victor Turner. Jessica Mitford's The American Way of Death and Stiff are also really great pop-social science looks at funeral practices in the U.S. Funeral rites are particularly interesting, I've found, through the lens of taboo and disgust, if you're not familiar with Mary Douglas's Purity and Danger read it immediately. Hope that helps!
Please- can you also put me on the list for your papers. I think that sounds brilliant! It is one of the things that attracted me to the genre. Also- I'll take your recommendations for books. I like the Riley Jensen books!

AWESOME comments on the sex work post. Warmed my nerdy, academic heart.
