And here I was thinking it was just because we don't get a lot of stuff here on Guam. This sucks. SUCKS. Not an enlightening comment, I know, but man, that's been my old standby for years.
Interesting that they did say it's coming back on the market...eventually. For...manufacturing updates? What in the hell is that all about? O.o
@vanka-vstanka: Not even 17 time zones could stop me from lending my voice to this chorus. Never met a dude who made such an effort to make everyone feel welcomed and appreciated. :)
Exercise has been the only real solution to a lifetime struggle with depression and other mental illness, and it is my main coping method for the fibromyalgia and autoimmune disease that have slowly tried to take over my life in the last 3 years.
I won't lie. It's never easy, and I get discouraged so much. In a field of lean, tiny capoeiristas/runner/dancers, I'm the odd one out being so comparatively large and solid. Even at a fairly average size, I'm definitely "the fat athlete". And some of my peers do buy in to the idea, and the exposure to that sucks. But for most, it's about respecting abilities, which I have plenty of. Overall, it's my sanity and my joy. I love that despite having so many reasons to just sit the hell down and stay there, I don't. I can't! I'd miss it too much! I love sweating, pushing myself, finding new strengths, FINALLY sticking that damned acrobatic sequence, leg muscles getting big enough that I need to go up a size in uniform pants, seeing my progress over the last few years...and more. I ran a marathon, dammit! And plenty other smaller races. I rode a bike 500 miles, across an entire state....twice! I train at least 4 times a week in a demanding martial art that makes most people go OMG NO I COULDN'T DO THAT.
Fuck yeah, I'm writing a novel. 'Cos I'm amazing and I'm proud of myself.
@Vegetarigasm: There could be a whole market for women to sell their fat to other women needing some for a procedure. Only getting lipo, not a boob job? Get a discount on your procedure, by donating your discarded fat!
@quelquefois: I remember hearing a recording of Ke$ha singing somewhere online...heck, might have been here, for all I know...without all the auto-tune and other such foolishness, and she actually had a very pretty voice. It made me really sad that the marketing machine is what it is, that she had to put on this big asshole act to get big.
@SoHardtoDefine: No kidding. I bought a scrip to them because it was about the only thing I could find on my kids' school fundraising mag sales list that I might read.
(Better Homes & Gardens? Country Living? Real Simple? GAH.)
Every time I've seen his column show up in the back of the magazine, I've regretted choosing Time. I could just stop getting my blood pressure up and ignore it, but it's a bit like a train wreck--I cannot seem to look away. He's also shown himself to be quite homo- and transphobic, with occasional light misogyny for a palate cleanser. It's gross.
I'm mostly a silent reader these days, thanks to moving 14 time zones away from the East Coast--kind of hard to comment on current posts!--but I'm still here, and I wish you well on your new adventures. I followed your Tumblr. :)
@Mary Ratliff: Yeah, I have gotten a reputation as the resident gadfly on some issues. Doesn't help being the token liberals in the military (well, that's how it feels sometimes), because I feel like I'm often swimming upstream dealing with them. I have let this one go, though, because I figure it's a smaller battle.
(I'm very lucky that the mini-Zinhas are exceptionally bright and kind of "old souls", because I can discuss things like dufus admins and teachers and how to deal without dumbing it down too much. Still think it's weird, but not enough to demand a class change...just enough to ask why and watch 'em squirm for a lack of real reasons, for laffs.)
My 7-year-old twin daughters have had to change schools 3 times so far, thanks to military transfers, and I have been told every time that this is why it's important for them not to be in the same class together--ostensibly, it's just "not healthy" to have one very good 'built-'in' friend like that. On one hand, I do understand that it's good for them to meet lots of children, but the way these admins and teachers talk about it, it's downright pathological to be very closely bonded to a sibling or a friend like that. They will also split up known BFF pairs as they rise through the grades for the same reason. It strikes me as very strange and disconnected. I'm not a fan.
My cynical, angry self says the stigma on moms placing their babies for adoption is rooted in the wide-reaching idea of punishing women's sexuality. Same thing that starts the foul "should have kept your legs closed" and "abortion is selfish" memes.
You gave up your baby? You got off easy! You made the mistake and now someone else is caring for your mistake...erm, we mean child! How callous and selfish of you! How dare you get off scot-free!
@Dinkenesh: And he just seems to be having fun in life and loving everyone, crazy "go to hell, I'm done with fan mail" videos aside. Most every time I've seen him in interviews or his YouTube channel, he just comes off as delightfully human and jolly.
Ringo has always been my favourite Beatle, and I started drumming because of him. This picture made me squeak involuntarily.
I'm looking forward to seeing him in concert this summer. :D
They stole my idea! The bastards!
I started a Facebook fan page for "inappropriate-looking plant life" based on my friend's comments about weird penis-shaped mushrooms in her yard. Now I wish I'd started a site like this instead. I could be (mildly internet) famous! :D
@MissBuckyC: Well, it's not as bad as it seems. They get an idea of a few different ingredients that MIGHT be used, so they can kind of mentally map out what they would do with each ingredient, were it come up for that show. So it's still not a TOTAL shock, but it's not as though they know exactly which one they'll have.
