Scientists Cure Peanut Allergy (In Mice)

Scientists were able to cure peanut allergies in mice by attaching peanut proteins to the mice's own cells and then putting the cells back in their bodies. This technique also worked with egg allergies. The technique hasn't been tested on humans yet, but at least now mice can enjoy delicious PB&J sandwiches. More »

Last night was the 19th annual "Treehouse of Horror" episode on The Simpsons. As mentioned before, they spoofed the opening credits of Mad Men for one segment, and for the final bit, they spoofed the Peanuts classic It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! In it, Milhouse — who plays the Linus character — believes that the Grand Pumpkin will rise on Halloween and give candy to kids who truly believe in him. Lisa is supposed to be Sally, but instead of being a ghost, she dresses up in what Milhouse thinks is a witch costume, but she corrects him, telling him that she's actually a Wiccan. Clip above. First The Simpsons, now Charlie Brown and friends? Are fashion's latest muses cartoons? Apparently, yes! Isaac Mizrahi, Heatherette, and our favorite "bad mommy", Project Runway's Laura Bennett, are part of a group of designers creating a runway show for New York's Fashion Week inspired by the various characters of one of our all-time favorite comic strips. Why is fashion so into cartoons, we wonder? Is it because they actual present more realistic body shapes than, uh, that of real people? Or is that they makes for easy targets when fashion wants to get all weirdly esoteric and start commenting on gender roles? We're beginning to suspect the latter; after all, Mizrahi will be conceptualizing poor Charlie... in drag. But what does that mean for the little redheaded girl? And if Charlie's now a drag queen, is Peppermint Patty going to get called out for being the big ol' Lez(ebel) everyone always knew her to be? More »
