Awards season is in full swing, and tonight the Screen Actors Guild Awards were held. This year's SAG broadcast had some definite highlights—Tina Fey stole Steve Buscemi's wine; Viola Davis gave not one but two moving acceptance speeches; and Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, and Maya Rudolph introduced the world to a fun game that involves drinking whenever you hear the word "Scorsese." There were a few low points too. Alec Baldwin did a bizarrely bad impression of a teenage girl during his acceptance speech, and Kyle Chandler, sadly, lost for his performance as Coach Taylor in Friday Night Lights, but if he had to lose to anyone Steve Buscemi was the best possible option. Hugo, with all of its high-tech bells and whistles, leads the pack with 11 nods. Other nominees range from the expected (Viola Davis and Meryl Streep) to the surprising (Nick Nolte?) to the hell yeah: Melissa McCarthy! Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumulo! If you need proof that the Academy Awards are meaningless, here you go: There's a dog generating Oscar buzz this year. Uggie, an adorable nine-year-old Jack Russell terrier, steals the show in The Artist and now there's an online campaign to nominate him for an Oscar. Uggie's owner insists he's acting, but that seems doubtful since he can't grasp the concept of pretending to be someone else. According to Hollywood legend, in 1929 Rin Tin Tin was actually voted best actor, but the award was given to a human instead. So keep in mind that whoever wins the award this year might have been secretly beaten by a dog. More »
