Being trapped in a bus, plane, or car with a screaming infant is unpleasant for all involved. The non-relatives of the infant are annoyed, the infant's caretakers are often embarrassed, and the infant herself is usually the state of utter discomfort and frustration that can only come from not being able to effectively communicate with anyone that you're about to shit your pants. One Oregon bus driver decided to try to take the "crying infant on public transportation" matter into her own hands earlier this week by kicking a mother and her crying baby off of her bus. As could be expected, the mother and child's ejection caused more problems than it solved. More »

Ready for something to make your stomach turn? A man took his girlfriend, Leafil Alforque, to an Oregon beach on Saturday to propose to her from Proposal Rock, a rock famous for its marriage commitments. While they made their way there, a 3 foot wave crashed on them and the petite Alforque was swept to sea. Emergency personnel searched the beach for her but thick fog and dangerous weather hampered their efforts and they were forced to call off the search on Monday. [AP, image via Flickr] More »

• In the most intriguing appointment speculation, though, former Senator and Vietnam veteran Max Cleland — who lost to never-done-served Saxby Chambliss in 2002 when Chambliss ran ads calling veteran and amputee Cleland unpatriotic — may be appointed to be the new Army secretary. In other news, Chambliss will likely face a runoff in December to hold the Senate seat he doesn't deserve anyway. [Politico]

• Obama's announced his transition team co-chairs — the folks that will help pave the way for his Administration, not a shadow Cabinet — and it includes John Podesta, Pete Rouse (Obama's Senate Chief of Staff) and Valerie Garrett. The advisory board to the co-chairs includes former EPA head Carol Browner; former Commerce Secretary William Daley; former transportation secretary Federico Peña; Obama national security adviser Susan Rice; and Governor Janet Napolitano. Don't expect to see those names on a future list of official appointments, though. [Washington Post]
• Obama's first official appointment will, however, be Congressman Rahm Emanuel. [NY Times]
• Four Senate races remain undecided: Alaska and Oregon are too close to call; Minnesota is likely to have an automatic recount; and Georgia's results require a runoff. [CNN]

An Oregon woman plans to ride her bicycle while topless in the Ashland Fourth of July Parade. Jen Moss, known around Ashland as "The Naked Lady," stated her plans to ride in the parade in an online posting, saying she will be wearing "only a hemp G-string and blowing a conch shell." Ouch! If we can remember correctly from our hemp anklet-making experiences in summer camp, hemp is not the softest fabric in the world, is it? Ashland has some lenient nudity laws which state that one must only cover the genitalia in public, but the Ashland Chamber of Commerce is saying they don't want Moss to be showing her nude (and probably well-tanned) body in the "family" parade. Moss says if she isn't allowed to ride, she'll sue. If she's known as "The Naked Lady," her bare breasts are probably nothing new to that town. Let the woman ride! [CBS News] More »

Nordstrom has pulled the naughty "Dram" style of Reef sandals after complaints from a community organization in Oregon. The sandals in question have a "hidden three-ounce flask, a funnel and a plastic key" concealed in the sole. "We at Oregon Partnership ... consider this product as a means for underage drinkers to hide alcohol," community leader Pete Schulberg said. Well DUH. Also: you probably should worry less about a three ounce flask and more about the giant Poland Spring bottle filled with vodka they're hiding in their backpack. Just sayin'!
