Oh My God the Veronica Mars Books Cannot Come Soon Enough

What the world needs now is more Veronica Mars. Here’s the good news: Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas has inked a deal with Alloy Entertainment to publish a series of stories based his famous character; they will deal not with high school hijinks or college shenanigans but Veronica’s adult life.

Here’s the bad news: According to The Hollywood Reporter, there will only be two books. TWO. Harrumph. Still:

The plot will pick up where events of the forthcoming Veronica Mars movie, slated for a 2014 release, end. Publication of the first book will be timed to the release of the movie and will likely arrive in spring 2014. Thomas will develop and co-write the series.

Rob Thomas started his career as a novelist, and says, “Veronica Mars was first imagined as a novel.” So exciting. Vintage editor Andrea Robinson also seems super psyched, saying:

I’ve always thought there is an immense amount of story left to be told. Our goal for the book series is to appeal to fans of the show, but also to appeal to mystery readers and lovers of series featuring strong, intriguing female protagonists.Veronica Mars is a contemporary update to the tradition of noir crime fiction that was established by Vintage’s Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler, so it’s exciting that we’ll also publish her here.”

Yay! More clever detective work, more justice, more witty banter, more Keith Mars, and hopefully more tortured, heartbroken Logan Echolls baring his twisted soul.
