Obama and His Daughters Take Manhattan

Latest

President Obama has been spending some quality time with his kids this weekend in New York City. He and youngest daughter Sasha boarded Air Force One on Friday afternoon along with two of her friends to meet up with his oldest, Malia, who has been spending the summer in the city interning on the set of Girls. The president attended a Democratic fundraiser that evening, followed by dinner with his daughters and some friends at Italian spot Carbone in Greenwich Village. Afterwards, they enjoyed a late night tour of the Whitney Museum.

White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the president was “looking forward to a rare opportunity he’ll have to spend a little personal time with his daughters in New York,” reports AP. Saturday afternoon, they attended a Broadway showing Hamilton, a hip-hop musical about the Founding Fathers and were joined by the president’s half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng and her husband Konrad. Earlier this summer, Michelle Obama spent time with Malia and Sasha in Italy and England, but for this trip, Mom stayed back home.

During last month’s podcast with Marc Maron, President Obama spoke fondly of his daughters, calling them “spectacular” and how “the biggest fun” he’s had is watching them grow up. But he also said, “Now, unfortunately they’re hitting the age where they still love me, but they think I’m completely boring. And so they’ll come in, pat me on the head, talk to me for 10 minutes, and then they’re gone all weekend. They break my heart!”
