On Monday, number one ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic joined the incomprehensible band of tennis-adjacent figures confidently saying some weird things about women’s tennis.

In an interview, Djokovic was asked about Indian Wells’ CEO Ray Moore’s comments that women should “go down every night on [her] knees and thank God that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born.” Djokovic said he doesn’t know what to say, but then continued speaking anyway:

After applauding female tennis players for fighting for equal prize money, Djokovic argued that the people who attract the most viewers should get the most money: “I think that our men’s tennis world, ATP world, should fight for more [prize money], because the stats are showing that we have much more spectators on the men’s tennis matches.”

(FYI the ratings for high-profile women’s tennis matches have often been better than the ratings for equivalent men’s tennis matches for several years.)

Djokovic then applauded women for having female bodies, which isn’t easy!

“It’s knowing what they have to go through with their bodies, and their bodies are much different than men’s bodies. They have to go through a lot of different things that we don’t have to go through. You know, the hormones and different stuff, we don’t need to go into details. Ladies know what I’m talking about,” he said.

“But it’s really for great admiration and respect for them to be able to fight on such a high level. Many of them, you know, they kind of have to sacrifice for certain periods of time, you know, the family time or decisions that they make with their own bodies, you know, in order to play the tennis and to play the professional sport.”

“I’m completely for women power,” he said. Wow, you’re really all over the map there Novak!
