Last night's Real Housewives of Atlanta was full of surprises: a surprise baby shower for Kim, a surprise trip to Miami, and Phaedra's "surprise" ultimatum to her husband to get involved in the new "family business" (the funeral home) or get out. This morning on Today, Nene Leakes discussed her early departure from Celebrity Apprentice—having abruptly quit the show after developing a harsh rivalry with Star Jones—saying she actually left because of the philosophy behind a domestic abuse slogan for women: "If the situation isn't good, you get out." The charity for which NeNe had been playing was the Atlanta Mission in Support of My Sister's House, a shelter for women and children of domestic abuse. By the time she left, she was the only remaining contestant who had not won any money for her cause. The irony in NeNe's domestic abuse excuse is that she, in fact, was the aggressor in the situation with Star Jones (as well as in a previous confrontation with La Toya Jackson). More »

There have been seven divorces that have occurred on The Real Housewives franchise in the five years since its premiere. The most recent casualty of this "divorce curse," Vicki Gunvalson, blames reality TV for her marital troubles telling CNN recently, "We didn't have 90 percent of the problems that we have now and I truly believe it is the show." But can a television show really be at fault, or does it merely shine a spotlight on the cracks that were already present in the foundation of a marriage? When NBC first scrolled an ominous notice across the bottom of the screen that President Obama would be making "an important statement shortly" during the last half hour of Celebrity Apprentice, for a split second it almost seemed like delicious payback on the part of the president—like it was his way of reminding Trump, "No matter what delusions you have under that hair, I will always be more important than you and your game show." But the statement actually turned out to be real, big-deal news. And while it was an historic event, it was still a little bit crushing that we were teased with the return of La Toya Jackson, and then left dangling on who was sent home. Everyone is always talking about what a great businessman and professional Donald Trump is, but if he had said what he said about Star Jones' pre-gastric-bypass ass on last night's episode of Celebrity Apprentice to an actual employee, it would be on the front page of the New York Post and he'd be getting sued so hard. The most uncomfortable part about it is that his sleazy son (who earlier in the episode made an inappropriate comment about wanting to return for Playmate of the Year Hope Dworaczyk's bath tub photo shoot) called even more attention to Trump's comment, as if he thought Dad didn't get enough laughs at first. On last night's episode of Celebrity Apprentice, La Toya stepped up and took the leadership position for the first time as project manager, and despite the fact that she successfully pulled off her task, NeNe was hellbent on denigrating her to anyone who would listen, both during the challenge and later in the board room. After it was announced that La Toya had actually led her team to victory and the ladies convened in their suite while one of the men was being fired, NeNe ripped into her, accusing La Toya of riding coattails in this competition the same way she did her entire life with her famous siblings. It was way harsh. Surprisingly, La Toya didn't back down, nor did she get emotionally provoked. She stood her ground, saying something about NeNe's "heigth" [sic]. More »
