Last week, Dr. Melissa Harris-Perry boycotted her own MSNBC show because, she wrote in an open letter to her staff, she was tired of being sidelined. Her rift with the channel reached a breaking point in January over Beyoncé’s “Formation” video, which Harris-Perry had to fight to cover, and on Sunday MSNBC confirmed she had been let go. Today, MHP is scorching MSNBC’s earth on her Twitter timeline.
Monday evening, news broke that Alex Wagner’s planned weekend show on MSNBC had been shelved, joining the ranks of several contributors of color who have been pushed out or relegated to smaller on-air roles. The network, set on shedding its liberal persona, has also seemed to whitewash its presenters. Meanwhile, Harris-Perry’s Twitter indicated she was in conversation with MSNBC brass about her departure until 5 PM today, but that she was not impressed with the meeting, at all. The Wake Forest University professor unleashed some fire tweets:
Aunt Viv would be proud—but we’re still heartbroken that The Melissa Harris-Perry Show is no more.
