oates111408.jpgThe incredibly prolific (bitch has written over 70 books!) literary badass Joyce Carol Oates has been nominated for not one, but two National Book Critics Circle awards. Oates was nominated in fiction for The Gravedigger's Daughter, and in autobiography for The Journal of Joyce Carol Oates. Other female nominees for fiction include Marianne Wiggins for The Shadow Catcher, and in autobiography, Anna Politkovskaya for A Russian Diary: A Journalist's Final Account of Life, Corruption and Death in Putin's Russia. Also just announced were the Caldecott, Newberry, and Printz awards in children's literature. Particularly notable is Geraldine McCaughrean's The White Darkness which was awarded the Printz for excellence in young adult lit. [New York Times, New York Times]
