June is the first month in which Vogue magazine is supposed to live up to the strictures of its new "Health Initiative," a voluntary attempt at self-regulation by the fashion bible's 19 international editions. Vogue will, as of this month, no longer "knowingly hire" models under the age of 16; it will no longer "knowingly hire" models "who appear to have an eating disorder"; and it will be an ambassador "for the message of healthy body image." How is the brand doing so far? Well, Vogue Germany opted to mark the transition by running an un-Photoshopped Peter Lindbergh spread featuring 11 prominent German women of various ages — including actors, models, and the editor-in-chief of the magazine herself. Vogue calls the pictures "unvarnished, unadulterated, pure." While not exactly groundbreaking — we've seen Lindbergh shoot supermodels in black-and-white, without Photoshop, before — the spread is an interesting counterpoint to the over-'Shopped ladymag new normal. Will Vogue keep its commitments? That remains to be seen. But these pictures sure are pretty. More »

Sounds great, right? You might think this is a great chance to showcase the bodies of these athletes in action, to prove that powerful, athletic bodies are beautiful and worth aspiring to. The new issue of Entertainment Weekly is devoted to beefcake abfest Magic Mike — which hits theaters June 29 — and apparently the Channing Tatum cover has labial folds flaps which readers "strip", aka spread open, to reveal the rest of the cast. In a video at EW.com, former male stripper Tatum talks about taking Matthew McConaughey to his first male strip show. Tatum and McConaughey chatted with the guys before the show, and McConaughey says, "I never thought the guys we were talking to were going to be the guys on stage… [One guy had] four kids at home, one guy just got back out of the military—" "One guy was an attorney," Tatum chimes in. The new issue of People magazine features Beyoncé on the cover as the World's Most Beautiful Woman. As People editor Janet Mock notes, it's the "first time in 9 years that a black woman lands this coveted cover." In 2003, Halle Berry was named World's Most Beautiful Woman; she and Beyoncé are the only two black women to hold the honor in 22 years. A look back at the celebrities People has called "most beautiful" reveals that past honorees are ladies like Meg Ryan, Nicole Kidman and Cindy Crawford. Michelle Pfeiffer has been called Most Beautiful twice; Julia Roberts has been the cover gal four times. Jennifer Lopez, the 2011 Most Beautiful, is the lone Latina on the list. And there have been zero Asian women. (Three of the covers in the last 22 years were graced by men, but this issue is not to be confused with the Sexiest Man Alive issue. Anna Wintour did something a little unusual last week at the White House state dinner: she reached deep into her no doubt capacious closet, and fished out a Chanel haute couture gown she last publicly wore three years ago.
