Liz Cheney Is Really, Really Wyoming, You Guys

Liz Cheney has released her first campaign ad as she runs for Senate in Wyoming, a state she’s trying to convince the public she has deep roots in. That’s proved difficult, given that she moved back in the fall of 2012 from Virginia and has faced criticism that she should have run for office in the state she was actually living in.

When Cheney first announced she was running back in July, she spent a good amount of time talking about her family history in Wyoming, talking about how the Cheney’s have been in Wyoming since 1852 and mentioning her grandmother becoming the first female deputy sheriff in her county, fun facts that are also in this new campaign ad, which is devoted entirely to how totally Wyoming through and through Cheney and her family is. Cut to: a shot of her daughter riding a horse.

“20 years ago, Phil and I were married here and today we’re raising our kids here, on the same Wyoming values I grew up with,” Cheney says in this new ad, effectively ignoring the fact that she grew up in Virginia and has lived there since. “I’m running for the United States Senate because it’s time for a new generation of leaders to step up to the plate.” Good thing she got that whole fishing license thing worked out too.
