Lifetime's Whitney Houston Biopic Might Not Be Terrible

Latest

To follow-up its god-awful Aaliyah movie, Lifetime TV will air an Angela Bassett-directed biopic about the life of Whitney Houston, Whitney, on Jan. 17, 2015. We have a few photos from the set and I’m not getting my hopes up but pre-judging from these images, it maybe might not be terrible??

The other pluses are that YaYa DaCosta (who’s playing Whitney) is a more than capable actress—she was good in The Kids Are Alright—and, more important, she’s a student of Tyra Banks. So it can’t be bad.

YaYa’s also in good hands with Bassett, who knows a thing or two about creating a successful biopic. Still, hopes are at a medium but not too high level!

Like the Aaliyah and R. Kelly dynamic in Aaliyah: Princess of R&B—but hopefully handled more respectfully—this Whitney movie will focus heavily on the singer’s relationship with Bobby Brown (played by Arlen Escarpeta).

According to Lifetime’s press site:

Whitney chronicles the headline-making relationship between the iconic singer, actress, producer and model Whitney Houston and singer and songwriter Bobby Brown from the time they first met at the very height of their celebrity to their courtship and tumultuous marriage. Throughout it all, difficulties followed the superstar couple while they dealt with the overwhelming rewards and consequences of the fame and fortune created by Houston’s meteoric rise that would soon overshadow them both.

See more photos below. Could be good, eh? Maybe?
