Where has Leona Lewis been, you ask? Everywhere and nowhere. Soon, she’ll be on Broadway, starring in the Cats comeback as Grizabella.
Nicole Scherzinger, of Pussycat Dolls fame, was originally set to play the role but backed out this month, reportedly due to responsibilities on X-Factor. Producer Andrew Lloyd Weber said he was “furious” and called Scherzinger “crazy” for not participating. Well, now he can retract his claws ’cause there’s a new Grizabella in town.
Page Six reports:
The former “X Factor” winner will get to sing the show’s signature song, “Memory,” in the show’s opulent finale, and then be led to “the heavy-side layer,” a sort of cats’ version of heaven.
Cats tragically ended its run in 2000 after 18 years, before being revived at the Neil Simon Theatre. The musical officially opens on July 31, with previews starting July 14.
News to me: Lewis released her FIFTH album I Am in 2015. The Cats role is perfect for her, since she kinda resembles one.
