The racial views of the members of the Gulnare Free Will Baptist Church in Kentucky evolved about 60 years in the past week, and all it took was a massive outpouring of shock and rage from people around the world. Yesterday, a week after nine people voted to pass a ban on interracial couples at the church, the decision was nullified. Pastor Stacy Stepp says that in place of the proclamation pushed by his predecessor, the congregation passed a new resolution that welcomes, "believers into our fellowship regardless of race, creed or color." We now know how things would go down in a real-life Home Alone situation. Rather than being left in his parents' mansion as they jetted off to France, a forgotten child wound up in a parking lot while his dad drove home with the groceries. While leaving a Kentucky Kroger, a dad loaded his bag and his two kids into his car and drove off, leaving his 6-month-old in the shopping cart. Before the baby had time to get into any holiday-themed antics, a couple spotted him and called 911. A few minutes later the police got a call from the dad, who was "totally distraught" about what he'd done. No charges will be filed, but social services will investigate, and both father and son can expect to be mercilessly mocked at Thanksgiving dinner for the rest of their lives. More »

Jennifer Lawrence was on The Late Show last night, and Dave asked if The Hunger Games was a "vampire deal." Lawrence explained that it has nothing to do with vamps, and that it is a "very violent, futuristic movie where kids are randomly selected from their home districts to fight in an arena to the death. But we don't drink blood… that's sick." She was funny and charming, and also discussed her role in X-Men: First Class, saying that it was fun to play Mystique, but would have been more fun if she could actually shape-shift. More »

In a more depressing sign of the impending economic collapse than the loss of 600 Starbucks, The Smoking Gun reports that a 34-year-old Kentucky woman, Angela Eversole, has been arrested on charges of prostitution after agreeing to providing sexual services to Kenneth Nowak (also arrested) for cash and $100 gas card. At 25 miles per gallon, that's just enough gas to get her to D.C. from Louisville, where she can either lobby for lower gas prices or the legalization of prostitution...her choice! I said I was never going to post about the Clinton campaign and sexism, since more than 12 out of 12 Clinton campaign surrogates agree that's not why she lost to Obama (despite that, congrats on winning Kentucky yesterday!), and then you go on Fox News and tell Shep Smith that Bob Herbert is a "black journalist who is a surrogate for Obama" on the basis that he is an unremitting misogynist who "hasn't had anything nice to say about Hillary in the last six months." Well, Geraldine, your charge that the media ignores sexism brought me back to a column I read about five months ago. "If there was ever a story that deserved more coverage by the news media," it opined, "it’s the dark persistence of misogyny in America." Well, if it wasn't written by BOB HERBERT himself! Not that you'd bother reading the writings of such a blatant token with a political leanings so simpleminded he would support a candidate solely on the basis of a shared RACE.
