Katy Perry Confirms Feud With Taylor Swift, Says Taylor 'Started It' and Won't Speak to Her

After years of speculation, the rumored feud between Katy Perry and Taylor Swift—the reason for songs like “Bad Blood” and “Swish Swish”—has been confirmed by one of its participants, and all it took was James Corden and a game of Carpool Karaoke.

In an episode of The Late Late Show that aired Monday night, Corden said to his famous passenger, “There’s no denying it. There’s Taylor beef. And when are we going to clear that beef up?”

Instead of answering with vague comments about women and bullying and swish swishing and bon appétit-ing and being chained to the rhythm, Perry actually discussed their fight, and confirmed the long-rumored reason for it: backup dancers. She also claims to have called Taylor in an attempt to squash the beef before it exploded into something worthy of a Joseph Kahn music video, only to be ignored.

Here’s her version of events:

“It’s about backing dancers. It’s so crazy! OK, so there are three backing dancers that went on tour with her tour, right? And they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like, ‘Yeah of course! I’m not on a record cycle! Get the work! She’s great!…But I will be on a record cycle in about a year, so be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you want to join me when I say I’m going back on.’
So that year came up, right? And I texted all of them, because I’m very close with them, and I said, ‘Look, just FYI, I’m about to start, I want to put the word out there.’ And they said, ‘All right, we’re going to talk to management about it.’ And they did. And they got fired. And I tried to talk to her about it, and she wouldn’t speak to me.”

Corden responded with a gasp at that moment and asks whether she actually tried speaking with her, to which Perry responds:

“I do the right thing anytime it feels like a fumble, and it was a full shutdown. And then she writes a song about me! And I’m like, ‘Oh, cool, cool, cool. That’s how you wanna deal with it? Karma.’”

I’ve long suspected this feud would ultimately end with the two of them burying the hatchet at some live event, and am beginning to think it’ll happen during Katy’s Witness tour. Maybe at the Staples Center? Yeah, the Staples Center.

Speaking of feuds, Mo’Nique took to her podcast to explain what she meant when calling out Tyler Perry, Lee Daniels, and Oprah during a recent comedy show. I’m not going to say I understand the situation any better after reading this quote, I’m just going to say it exists:

“You had a crucial part in the dismemberment of my family. That’s why me and Oprah Winfrey [have] a problem. And for all y’all in here watching right now, for all y’all listening, you ain’t got to guess about it no more. You’re getting it from me. And what I would ask y’all [is] don’t take my word, ask Oprah Winfrey!”

So, uh, Oprah? If you’re reading this…can you explain? Mo’Nique told me to ask you.
