Jersey Shore Boardwalk Destroyed by Huge Fire

Latest

A large stretch of the boardwalk in Seaside Heights, NJ — a location made famous nationwide for being showcased on MTV’s Jersey Shore — was engulfed in flames after a fire broke out in an ice cream shop and quickly spread. About 50 businesses were damaged or destroyed less than a year after Hurricane Sandy devastated the area.

Officials are still unsure what caused the fire which began on Thursday afternoon and blazed throughout the night, fueled by strong winds from the south. At one point, firefighters were ordered to pull back because of the intensity of the flames. As of this morning, the fire was still smoldering.
