Jenna Lyons Hires 5-Year-Old to Design Clothes for J.Crew

Thanks to fashionable tots like North West and the trend of children dressing like grownups, there are kids who dress better than we ever will. And now, a tiny style icon has designed a collection for one of the world’s most well-known brands, at the tender age of 5. Sydney Keiser, who goes by the punk rock-sounding nickname Mayhem, was approached by J.Crew to design a capsule collection for their children’s line.

According to The Telegraph, the Ohio-based little girl found a love for fashion while using gift wrap, paper and tape to make dresses and costumes with her mother, Angie. The designs, which included recreations of red carpet gowns, were posted to her blog Fashion by Mayhem, along with an Instagram account that currently boasts almost 480,000 followers.

Jenny Cooper, head designer of Crewcuts, J.Crew’s children’s line, read about Mayhem in an article and immediately texted the brand’s President and Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, to discuss a collaboration. Last summer, Mayhem and her mother were flown to New York to spend a couple of days meeting with Lyons and Cooper. They watched Mayhem work her magic and the result was a capsule collection for Crewcuts’ 2015 Summer line. After all of her hard work, the mini-fashion designer ended up taking a nap in Lyons’ office.
